About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of transforming transport in Scotland today. Sustrans is recruiting a Head of Design Engineering & Assurance for Scotland who will lead the team to support the effective delivery of programmes. You will be a senior influencer within active travel in Scotland.
What makes this role stand out is that you will guide projects from start to finish, being in on the early ideas and proudly there for the grand openings too.
You will hold responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the function, ensuring prioritisation and allocation of resources, delivering projects against financial and performance targets set along with our clients.
You will build and manage internal and external relationships with the key players from central and local government, communities, Transport Scotland and others.
This role offers a unique opportunity to deliver our vision of making the National Cycle Network (NCN), a traffic-free, accessible network of paths and routes for everyone.
The NCN is now a pivotal part of Transport Scotland policy and is making a difference to the lives of people living in and around Scotland. Over the coming years this resources invested in this comprehensive network are planned to more than double in size.
We’re flexible on location, offer hybrid working with the opportunity to travel and work (including overnight stays) at locations around Scotland.
About you
You should have demonstrable experience of leading, motivating and managing a multi-disciplinary team, including a range of technical professionals qualified in civil engineering, urban design and mobility planning.
You will build relationships with ease across a wide range of people; senior leaders, partners and the general public, allowing you to positively influence people within the Active Travel Sector in Scotland at all levels.
You will have:
A Degree (or equivalent) in either Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering or 12 years relevant experience
Relevant experience of civil engineering contract management (NEC3&4) for projects ranging in scale and complexity
Experience in preparation of bills of quantities and construction cost estimates and preparation of technical drawings and specifications
Have good knowledge of:
Health and safety management including CDM 2015
Highway regulations and guidance such as Manual for Streets, Cycle By Design, DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW and Traffic Signs Manuals
