Role

The Scottish Government have announced a Skills for Life Programme to support people who are currently unemployed and are a Parent living in the same household as the children and is ring fenced for people who live in North Ayrshire. There are fully funded work placements within the public and third sectors for North Ayrshire employers.

North Ayrshire Wellbeing & Recovery College (NAWARC) are pleased to offer a paid work placement within the role of a Peer Champion within the NAWARC team. The successful people will gain experience of using their lived mental health experience of recovery to support others, gain skills in co-facilitation and support the online social media engagement and support co-facilitation programmes and courses. The successful applicant will have knowledge and understanding of recovery and of the Recovery College model with some experience of peer working and group facilitation. They will be self-motivated and enthusiastic about peer working and self-management. The post holder will work as an integral and highly valued member of the NAWARC team, bringing a peer perspective to the student services team, supporting student engagement and being involved in ongoing delivery and development of NAWARC.

The Peer Champion (PC) will be offered specific training in mental health and course facilitation and attend a Peer Practice Development forum and RAMH Induction and Core Training Courses. The PC will be comfortable sharing their ‘lived experience’ of recovery from mental health challenges. The PC will gain skills as a Champion and as an ambassador of NAWARC and recovery in RAMH and NAWARC services, partner organisations and to North Ayrshire Health & Social Care Partnership. The opportunity will be supported by ‘We Work for Families’ Ayrshire.
