School Counsellor – Scottish Borders

  • Galashiels. Travel between Dalkeith and the Galashiels area will be required on a weekly basis (expenses paid for these journeys).

  • 35 hours per week. The post is funded for a fixed term of 1 year (continuation dependent on MYPAS securing further funding). The post may involve evening working – to be negotiated depending on client needs

Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work for MYPAS in the Scottish Borders.

MYPAS has been commissioned by Scottish Borders Council to conduct a one year School Counselling pathfinder project across the Galashiels cluster.

Building on the success and good practice of their School Counselling services in Midlothian and East Lothian, MYPAS will look to establish referral pathways, create and maintain good communication links with key partner agencies; deliver a high quality counselling service with children and young people; provide guidance, information, advice and signposting to young people and their families on emotional and mental wellbeing; and monitor, evaluate and report on the progress of the pathfinder project.

The postholder will be responsible for providing counselling with children and young people aged 10-18 who attend school in, or live in, the identified school cluster area in the Scottish Borders. The postholder will establish, develop, evaluate and report on, this pathfinder project of the School Counselling service.

Qualified to MSC/Diploma level in a counselling therapeutic discipline, a member of a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, COSCA) and have experience of working with children and young people, the postholder will also be committed to developing and delivering a high quality service according to best practice, within a multi-disciplinary environment.

Midlothian Young Peoples Advice Service (MYPAS) promotes the health and wellbeing of young people across East Lothian and Midlothian and currently focuses on working in the areas of mental health and substance use. MYPAS is a community-based organisation with charitable status and based in Dalkeith.
