Role

We protect and promote the human rights of people with mental health illness, learning disabilities, dementia and related conditions.

We are recruiting for an engagement and participation officer (lived experience) to draw on their personal experience to contribute expertise and perspectives to inform and support the work of the Commission and to help the Commission to engage effectively and credibly with a range of people with mental health problems, learning disability, dementia or related conditions and their carers.

You will be able to draw on your current or recent lived experience of autism spectrum disorder and of using services to influence, challenge and encourage a broader perspective. In addition to your personal experience, you will have experience of working successfully with individuals and groups in mental health, learning disability, dementia or a related field in either a paid or voluntary capacity.

You will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to listen effectively and communicate at all levels. You will be able to evidence experience of gathering, analysing and reporting information. You will have good organisational skills with the ability to plan your own time to meet deadlines. It is essential that you have the ability to value diversity and promote anti-discriminatory practice and to understand and challenge stigma and discrimination. A qualification in mental health, advocacy, community development or a related field is desirable.
