Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. We have represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for almost 100 years. Today, in over 60 communities we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools and further education, among others.

These services together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention and active living; inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. About the Role

SAMH is constantly striving to improve and deliver the best outcomes for our services users to enable them to live fulfilling lives. Alongside our values of dignity, inclusion and human rights approach, core to this success is the practice knowledge, skills and expertise of our workforce.

This exciting new to role will join our Policy and Practice Development team to develop and provide high quality practice development support and training to operational teams across SAMH. The post holder will draw on mental health experience and policy knowledge to deliver practice sessions on a broad range of mental health topics that may include; psychosis, working with people with negative symptoms i.e. hearing voices and delusions, dual diagnosis including neurodiversity and trauma informed practice within a mental health setting.

This registered practice lead will support the Policy and Practice Development Manager to identify new trends and use emerging research to support the development of services and new models and approaches of delivery. The role will also support managers when providing group supervision sessions or individual debriefing as best practice.

What we are looking for

Candidates with proven significant experience in the field of mental health working as a registered professional (mental health, nursing, allied health or counselling) and have delivery experience and knowledge of a range of approaches to meet the needs of people who have a mental health diagnosis i.e. CBT approaches, motivational interviewing.

Significant experience in delivery mental health practice sessions on a range of themes and topics, and the ability to demonstrate positive, inclusive and compassionate leadership attributes, in line with SAMH values.

Adaptable to a changing environment and the ability to drive change and motivate people and have a broad knowledge of mental health strategy, national legislation and policy and have knowledge of up-to-date research in relation to people who have a mental health diagnosis.
