The role:
As a result of an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Governance & Information Adviser to join our Corporate Performance team to provide support and guidance to our Board, Committees and Information Management function. This is a rare opportunity to join a small, dedicated team working with colleagues across the organisation.
With excellent organisational skills, you will have a proven track record in handling information, data, and complaints in a professional and empathetic manner.
As someone who has experience of working with organisational governance structures, you will understand how to communicate effectively with Members of our Board, members of the public and members of staff.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate the consistent and timely communication of information to and from Board Members and Groups.
• Review standing orders and terms of reference to ensure that they remain relevant and appropriate for the purpose of exemplifying excellence in governance within our statutory framework.
• Develop and drive the consistent delivery and on-going guidance of the organisation’s day-to-day governance activity.
• Contribute as required to the development of policies, procedures, training, and guidance to ensure statutory compliance in relation to complaints handling and governance obligations.
• Coordinate the Authority’s complaints procedure in accordance with the Public Service Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 including drafting responses and promoting positive staff engagement with the complaints process.
• Work with the Information Manager to help ensure that information requests are handled in accordance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004, guidance, and internal policies. Support the regular review and update of the publication scheme.
• Work with the Information Manager to help ensure that all enquiries received under data protection legislation including Subject Access requests are handled in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (the GDPRs), the Data Protection Act 2018, and internal policies.
• Ability to engage effectively with staff across the organisation at all levels.
• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.
Who we are looking for:
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
• Experience of organisational governance arrangements.
• Experience of handling information, data, and complaints.
• Experience of corresponding with members of the public in an empathetic and professional manner.
• Experience of working to strict deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, managing the conflicting demands of a busy workload.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Relevant qualification or equivalent experience working in an information and/or governance environment.
Ideally, but not essential, you’ll also have:
• Experience of managing complaints to appeal stage and communicating with the SPSO (complaints ombudsman).
• Experience of working within the NDPB environment.
• Familiarity with SharePoint and the Office 365 environment.
