The Ethical Standards Commissioner is responsible for investigating complaints about the conduct of MSPs, Councillors and the board members of public bodies. We also oversee how people are appointed to the boards of public bodies.

As Governance and Finance Officer (GFO) you will assist the Head of Corporate Services and wider office in relation to the management of our governance and finance arrangements. This is a part-time post and the successful candidate will lead on the governance elements of the role. You will be supported by and provide cover for the other part-time GFO who leads on the financial elements. You will have a successful track record of supporting the financial activities of a relatively small office or organisation in line with established policies and procedures.

As Governance and Finance Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting day-to-day management of our financial transactions and procedures, including
  • Processing and recording financial transactions
  • Administering payroll and pension
  • Annual budgeting
  • Providing a range of regular and ad hoc management information.
  • Maintaining our governance systems, including
  • Preparation of our annual report and accounts and a range of other annual reports
  • Supporting external and internal audit and our Advisory Audit Board
  • Assisting with strategic and operational plans
  • Maintaining our governance and risk management policies, procedures and registers

They will have the ability to contribute to the effective governance of an office or organisation.
