Role

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to lead a unique and inspiring organisation, dedicated to transforming the lives of autistic children and their families. Founded in 2008, the Tailor Ed Foundation (TEF) has established itself as the leading provider of child and family centred autism services across Edinburgh and East Lothian, currently delivering to over 200 families each year. With the founder Director now standing down, the board are seeking their next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to build on the legacy and excellent reputation the organisation has established over the last 15 years.

TEF was set up to address a gap in support for autistic young people to provide them with support to gain everyday skills. TEF’s vision is to see autistic children and their families empowered and included, able to live the lives they want to and to access all the day to day experiences that other families take for granted. TEF teams work directly with autistic children and young people, alongside their families, in home, community and education settings.

As CEO, you will be responsible for developing and delivering organisational strategy and for ensuring the stability and sustainability of current services. Working with a highly skilled and committed team, you will oversee finances and budgeting and the compliance and risk management that come with leading a care focused charity. You’ll inspire and support the team, ensuring effective management of services and ongoing staff development. You will also build positive and productive relationships with the board and key stakeholders – health boards and local authorities, funders, academics, third sector partners and service users – and influence the perception, understanding and support available for autistic children and their families in Edinburgh, East Lothian and beyond.

Values are at the heart of TEF’s work so you will bring insight, emotional intelligence and compassion to the role as a supportive, facilitative and collaborative leader. A people person, you will be creative and self-motivated, a skilled communicator, resilient and pragmatic. Most importantly, you will be passionate about bringing positive change and improving the lives of autistic children and the families who surround them.

You don’t need to have been a Chief Executive – this role represents an excellent opportunity for the right person to step up to a top leadership role. You may currently be a charity depute chief executive, functional director or senior manager. You may have a background in psychology, autism, education, child development or social work or have served as a chair, office bearer or trustee in a relevant field. Or you may bring leadership skills from the public or private sector but are seeking a fresh challenge and have a keen interest in and alignment with the work of TEF and the values of the third sector.
