About Urban Roots

Urban Roots is a community-led environmental and health improvement charity based in the Southside of Glasgow. For over ten years we have worked alongside local residents and volunteers to establish and support a network of community gardens and woodlands. We also deliver healthy cooking programmes and outdoor learning and play activities for children and young people.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, organised and adaptable person to join us as our Volunteer Development & Wellbeing Officer.

This role combines volunteer development with participant well-being support. The postholder will be responsible for recruiting, supporting, and developing volunteers across Urban Roots, ensuring they have a positive experience and can contribute meaningfully to our projects and activities.

Alongside volunteer coordination, the role will support participants attending Urban Roots activities through one-to-one wellbeing catch-ups, identifying support needs, managing referrals from GP surgeries and partner organisations, signposting to appropriate services and helping individuals access the activities and groups that best meet their needs.

The successful candidate will have experience in recruiting and supporting volunteers, as well as experience working with vulnerable adults or individuals facing barriers to participation. Previous experience of working in the third sector and an interest in environmental issues would be an advantage.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the active recruitment of new members with a particular focus on decision-makers and leaders.
  • Build, manage and progress a membership pipeline, using proactive activity, referrals, events, partner networks and existing organisational data.

The Role:

The HUB Coordinator role will provide you with an opportunity to work as part of a team of staff and student associates to take this project into its next phase. You will have the opportunity to work in partnership with prestigious educational establishments as well as care-experienced individuals, as part of an innovative programme which could ultimately change the landscape of educational opportunities for people in care.

While contributing to the strategic direction, you will also have the remit to shape and maintain the programmes and workstreams you lead on - while ensuring that the people we are here to serve remain central to our aims. Part of this will also involve working with a small group of people who access the HfS support - ensuring you remain alert to the needs of those we are here to serve.

As HUB Coordinator, you will also have the opportunity work across other programmes and projects in collaboration with the team. You will be in an excellent position to use your experience in widening participation, third/charity sector, social work, social care, youth/community work, or the education sector, to support our care-experienced individuals to access and succeed in further and higher education.

As a small, agile and collaborative team, we support each other in the design, delivery, and evaluation of all our programmes and projects so if you have the skills and experience to succeed in this meaningful and rewarding role, then we would love to hear from you.
