As a member of the team, you will support the delivery of our new approach to ‘social movement funding’, a new part of our Programme Awards funding stream.

The Role

The Programmes Officers will support the Programmes Manager (Social Change Movements) to contribute to the development and delivery of our ‘social movement funding’ approach, our most proactive Programme Award work, aligned to our long-term change priorities.

You will contribute to influencing and social change activity, particularly through the projects we fund, build strong relationships with grantholders and stakeholders, and support the effective development, assessment and management of both our ‘social change movement’ Programme Awards and our wider Programme Award portfolio.

You will gather and apply insight to strengthen programme development and learning, contribute to meaningful participation of people with lived experience, and work collaboratively across the organisation to ensure our programme work is informed, connected and effective.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and delivery of our new ‘social movements funding’ approach – our most proactive Programme Award cohorts aligned to long-term change priorities

• Contribute to identifying and supporting influencing opportunities, particularly through funded projects

• Build and maintain trusted relationships with grantholders, stakeholders and experts by experience

• Support the development, assessment and management of Programme Awards in line with governance and good practice

• Gather and apply insight to inform programme development and organisational learning

• Contribute to participation and engagement with people with lived experience

• Support monitoring, review and learning processes to ensure programme activity remains aligned and impact focused

About You

We are looking for someone with knowledge of the Trust’s mission on poverty and trauma and an understanding of the third sector and independent funding landscape in Scotland and across the UK.

You will bring:

• HNC/D, or equivalent relevant experience.

• Relevant experience in a field related to poverty and/or trauma

• Experience contributing to programmes, projects or initiatives with demonstrable impact or influence

• An understanding of effective and relational funding practice

• Experience or understanding of funding processes such as assessment, decision making or grant management

• Insight into inequality, poverty or trauma through lived, paid or voluntary experience

• Strong analytical skills, sound judgement and attention to detail

• The ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders

• The confidence to manage competing priorities and use your own initiative

• High emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to people from different backgrounds

• An interest in Scotland’s policy and political landscape and the potential to develop political judgement

As part of our cross-cutting Influencing objective, this role will support the development and delivery of the Trust’s direct influencing activity, working with partners and stakeholders to influence decision making and systems change.

The Role

This role supports the Programmes Manager (Social Change Movements) and the wider organisation to strengthen the Trust’s influencing work in preventing and reducing poverty and trauma in Scotland.

You will help to develop and test effective approaches to direct influencing and support the Trust to build relationships with those who have the power to deliver change. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure influencing activity connects with our wider work, including communications, convening, the influencing work we fund and the learning from our funding.

You will also support stakeholder engagement, network development and policy insight, helping the Trust identify opportunities to influence policy, practice and decision making.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and delivery of direct influencing activity aligned to the Trust’s influencing objective

• Work collaboratively across the Trust to ensure direct influencing activity connects with communications, convening and the indirect influencing work we fund

Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB is an independent charity providing advice, information and support to people across our community. We aim for individuals not to suffer through not knowing or understanding their rights and responsibilities or not being aware of the services available to them. We provide advice and options to our clients so that they can make informed decision and feel empowered to improve their personal circumstance.

About the project:

The Veterans Advice Service is a new project being established for the 2026-2027 financial year. The project will support both veterans and their families by providing holistic advice covering a range of areas such as benefits, housing, debt, and employment.

This project will include a focus on providing outreach in locations within Roxburgh and Berwickshire which do not currently have a physical CAB presence. These outreach sessions will allow the provision of face-to-face advice and aim to ameliorate the challenges faced by veterans living in rurality such as geographic and social isolation.

As part of this outreach activity, the project advisor will liaise with groups and organisations who are providing support for veterans within the community. The project advisor will raise awareness of the services and advice areas covered by Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB.

Job description:

As the Veterans Advice Service Advisor, you will have an interesting and rewarding role giving advice on a range of topics. You will work as part of a supportive team ensuring our clients receive a holistic service enabling them to exercise their rights and access the benefits and services they are entitled to. You will have the opportunity to advise across a number of areas, including: benefits, housing, debt, and employment etc. You will also have the opportunity to run outreach sessions within the local community, engaging with veterans and their families.

Within the role you will work with the bureau manager and operations coordinators to engage with other groups and organisations within the local community.

Key Responsibilities

• Interview clients over the phone, and face-to-face to gather relevant information about their circumstances and identify the areas they require assistance with.

• Research advice areas to identify possible options for the client and explain these in a concise and understandable way, to allow the client to make an informed decision.

• Engage with organisations and groups which provide support to veterans and their families, through raising awareness of our services, whilst also consolidating and strengthening clear referral pathways.

• Run outreach sessions across Roxburgh and Berwickshire to enable our clients to access advice within their local community.

• Provide practical assistance to clients such as completing benefit calculations on their behalf and helping clients to contact other agencies.

• Identify social policy issues to feedback to the wider network to help benefit both local and national social policy campaigns.

• Negotiate with third parties on the client’s behalf to resolve issues they are facing, for example, with employers, benefit agencies, and landlords, etc.

• Coordinate with other specialist advisors and projects within the Citizens Advice Bureau network to ensure clients receive support with complex issues.

• Refer clients to external agencies where the support required falls out with our remit.

• Maintain accurate records through the case recording system.

• Identify areas for personal development and proactively explore training opportunities to continue your own personal development.

• Keep up to date on relevant legislation and case law relevant to the role.

• Uphold the principles of Roxburgh and Berwickshire CAB at all times.

Crossbasket House provides accommodation and support for families with seriously ill children receiving care in the Royal Hospital for Children Glasgow and other hospitals in the west of Scotland. Families stay free of charge in the 30 bedroomed House and there is no time limit on the accommodation – once a family is given a room it is theirs until their child is discharged from hospital. For families with a sick child, the House is a haven at a stressful time when their child’s stay in hospital requires them to be close by while they are away from home.

JOB PURPOSE:

To be a point of contact in the House, providing a friendly, professional and efficient service to families, visitors and all stakeholders. To be a competent person to be the sole member of staff on occasions during your shift. Provide general administration, housekeeping and support to the House.

HOURS:

The role is 22.5 hours per week, worked over three shifts (Monday to Friday) + two weekends per month (17hrs).

  • Shifts will fall between 7:00am and 9:00pm and will be either 0700 –1500 hrs Monday to Friday or 1300 – 2100 hrs .
  • Two weekends/month will be 0900 – 1800 hrs Saturday AND Sunday.

The above hours include a half hour unpaid break.

Flexibility is expected to meet service requirements.

We are seeking a Programme Development Officer – Young People (Routes) to join our team. This post supports the ongoing development and delivery of the national ‘Grow Your Own Routes’ (GYOR) programme, funded by the Scottish Government’s Whole Family Wellbeing Fund. The aim of ‘Grow Your Own Routes’ is to scale up the existing Routes Demonstration Project, which supports young people aged 12-26 years affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug use.

The post-holder will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of Scottish Families’ national ‘Grow Your Own Routes’ programme across Scotland, reducing stigma and creating a more trauma-informed and responsive workforce. This development programme is funded by the Scottish Government’s Whole Family Wellbeing Fund. The aim of the programme is to support the continued delivery of the Routes practice model across six areas led by other third sector delivery partners, and to share learning about the Routes practice model with other areas of Scotland through delivering learning and development activities.

This is a national post which will involve significant travel across Scotland, as well as work at our national office at Robertson House in Glasgow, Routes bases in East and West Dunbartonshire and from home. It is expected that the post holder will be required to work some evenings and occasional weekends. This post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be managed by the Programme Manager – Young People (Routes)

We are seeking compassionate, creative and collaborative applicants who want to make a difference to the lives of young people affected someone else’s substance use. This role also includes supporting and working alongside young people as well as developing and delivering training on the Routes practice model. We are looking for candidates who are educated to degree level or have a relevant professional qualification, have experience of working with young people and ideally, have some knowledge of editing software. We were established in 2003 by families themselves, who came together to support each other and to campaign for recognition. We are a national charity based in Glasgow but working right across Scotland. We provide a range of national and local services, including a national helpline, one to one support, bereavement counselling and local family support services. We also deliver a national workforce development programme; Connecting Families; My Family, My Rights; communications; fundraising; and policy/ campaigning work, as well as our Routes young persons programme, and Grow Your Own Routes national development programme.

We are Scotland’s leading charity supporting families affected by substance use, and are recognised by the Scottish Government as one of their Key Third Sector Partners in the field of alcohol and drugs. We are funded through a combination of Government grants, commissioned services, charitable trusts and fundraising.

About the Role:

The role of the Counsellor is to provide a counselling, advice, and information service for individuals aged 16 and over to support their wellbeing and mental health.

The Counsellor will report to the Service Manager - Counselling.

This post requires a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership for children and protected adults. Successful applicants will be required to join the PVG Scheme.

Key Responsibilities of the Counsellor:

  • Provide counselling service to individuals following Murray’s Initiative’s integrative counselling approach.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to gain a deep, holistic understanding of a client's current circumstances.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and professionally and work with the admin team to ensure that the counselling database and reports are kept accurate and up to date.
  • Attend regular practice supervision and line management meetings, and participate in appropriate meetings and training opportunities, ensuring the minimum required CPD is completed.
  • Complete all mandatory training as required.
  • Adhere to the ethical frameworks of the appropriate governing body (COSCA).
  • Follow organisational policies and procedures, including health and safety.
  • Produce accurate and quality case studies of counselling clients for reports and training.
  • Contribute to service promotion by attending partner meetings in a professional manner.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Service Manager – Counselling.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Obtained a diploma-level qualification in counselling.
  • Completed a minimum of 100 hours of post-qualification client work.
  • Awareness and training in an array of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bereavement and neurodiversity.
  • Demonstratable experience of inter-agency working and working in community settings to be able to provide a high standard of support to clients alongside different services.
  • Up to date, or working towards, registration with COSCA, BACP or similar.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstratable excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to empathise with a broad range of individuals and experiences.
  • Proven ability to empower individuals to change with a non-judgmental approach.

Established in 1965, Murray’s Initiative adopts a long-term, trauma-informed and asset-based approach to changing the culture around substance use. Its services are built on a person-centred, harm-reduction model, supporting people whether their goal is to reduce consumption or achieve abstinence.

Murray’s Initiative offers free, confidential counselling services for people concerned about their own or someone else's drinking. Murray’s Initiative delivers a range of interventions including groupwork and employability support as well as a number of holistic and inclusive services, such as a women’s service for survivors of gender-based violence, young persons peer education service, LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing support and tailored wellbeing programmes.

Murray’s Initiative is also a recognised provider of professional development, offering a comprehensive training portfolio including education aimed at increasing awareness of alcohol use and promoting healthier lifestyles, COSCA Counselling Skills and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Murray’s Initiative deliver services over 6 days per week and throughout Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire, helping people make meaningful, positive change in their lives.

About the Role:

The role of the Counsellor is to provide a counselling, advice, and information service for individuals aged 16 and over to support their wellbeing and mental health.

The Counsellor will report to the Service Manager - Counselling.

This post requires a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership for children and protected adults. Successful applicants will be required to join the PVG Scheme.

Key Responsibilities of the Counsellor:

  • Provide counselling service to individuals following Murray’s Initiative’s integrative counselling approach.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to gain a deep, holistic understanding of a client's current circumstances.
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and professionally and work with the admin team to ensure that the counselling database and reports are kept accurate and up to date.
  • Attend regular practice supervision and line management meetings, and participate in appropriate meetings and training opportunities, ensuring the minimum required CPD is completed.
  • Complete all mandatory training as required.
  • Adhere to the ethical frameworks of the appropriate governing body (COSCA).
  • Follow organisational policies and procedures, including health and safety.
  • Produce accurate and quality case studies of counselling clients for reports and training.
  • Contribute to service promotion by attending partner meetings in a professional manner.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Service Manager – Counselling.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Obtained a diploma-level qualification in counselling.
  • Completed a minimum of 100 hours of post-qualification client work.
  • Awareness and training in an array of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bereavement and neurodiversity.
  • Demonstratable experience of inter-agency working and working in community settings to be able to provide a high standard of support to clients alongside different services.
  • Up to date, or working towards, registration with COSCA, BACP or similar.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstratable excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to empathise with a broad range of individuals and experiences.
  • Proven ability to empower individuals to change with a non-judgmental approach.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work proactively, managing own diaries and appointments, whilst maintaining resilience and capacity when working with complex client issues.
  • Commitment to working in line with Murray’s Initiative values of respect, empathy and collaboration.
  • Demonstrable alignment with the Core Conditions for a counsellor.

Working pattern: Ideal working pattern : Tuesdays & Wednesdays 9:00am – 5:00pm. We understand that many will have other commitments outside of work and so flexible working, part-time hours or job-sharing arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.
