Deafblind Scotland is the specialist charity working with deafblind people or those at risk of developing a second or dual sensory loss. Our ambitions are high for people with sensory loss, particularly those who are deafblind and we are therefore at the cutting edge of finding ways to support them to lead their most meaningful lives. The Carers Advice Project is a support service for carers, and those carers may themselves have a sensory impairment as well as or instead of the person they care for. The project operates in Fife to support people to access their rights so they can have a better quality of life and to reduce socio-economic and health inequalities. This post will also involve travel across Fife with occasional travel required to & from our office in Kirkintilloch.

Deafblind Scotland provides information & specialist knowledge in many inclusive forms of communication relied on by people with sensory loss including Braille/Moon, BSL/Tactile BSL, Deafblind Manual & Audio.

The project officer will work with the carers affected by sensory impairment within this project which is part of our Connect2Support Programme. Overall ensuring the carers affected by sensory impairment, who are amongst the most disadvantaged in society, are provided with specialist support which enables them & those they care for to access their rights and navigate the systems, services and support that can improve their lives.

CashBack Connections supports young people (aged 10-16) across deprived areas of Lanarkshire who are at risk of involvement in antisocial behaviour/offending by providing one-to-one and group befriending/mentoring opportunities. The project aims to guide young people away from negative influences and towards positive pathways of their choosing, while also supporting families facing challenges such as poverty, poor mental health, or substance misuse.

Young people will take part in activities that interest them, helping them to gain new experiences, develop skills, build confidence, and (importantly) have fun. Alongside developing trusting relationships with volunteers and peers, the project will reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and strengthen community connections. Where appropriate, families will also be offered support to address barriers affecting a young person’s progress.

With the delivery of the project about to begin, COVEY is now seeking a compassionate, skilled and proactive CashBack Connections Coordinator to lead the delivery of the project.

The CashBack Connections Coordinator will develop and deliver a blend of group support and one-to-one befriending and mentoring support, using a relationship-based and trauma-informed approach to build trust, strengthen resilience and promote positive engagement.

They will work closely with Service Managers, Family Support Workers, Volunteers and Group Facilitators to ensure safe, effective and high-quality delivery that aims to reduce the risk of antisocial behaviour/offending, helping young people to realise their potential and move towards education/training or employment.

A key part of the role will involve coordinating and supporting Volunteers and Group Facilitators, maintaining strong safeguarding practice and ensuring all activity is impactful and aligned with COVEY’s values. For young people with more complex needs, the Coordinator will collaborate with COVEY’s Family Support team to provide integrated, whole-family interventions, including more intensive support during periods of heightened risk or early intervention to prevent escalation.

As this is a new project, the role offers an exciting opportunity to bring fresh ideas, shape the development of CashBack Connections and directly influence the positive outcomes we aim to achieve for disadvantaged young people and their families.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support that positively impacts the person we support’s health and wellbeing
  • Contribute and implement support plans

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Qualified to the level required by the SSSC as a support worker in a housing support service/care at home service, or a willingness to work towards and to successfully complete qualification within the SSSC specified timeframe.
  • An energetic, enthusiastic person who would be interested in supporting a young man who lives with autism and learning disability; for whom the service provides 24/7 cover.
  • Support is inclusive of indoor and outdoor activities, so a willingness to be outdoors and be fit enough for longer walks would be essential, within the rural community.
  • A clean UK driving licence is required in order to take our client to and from activities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
  • Passion for helping people live independently
  • Experience or interest in housing, social care, or community support
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Care Support Scotland, and to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • A practice qualification (at least SCQF level 7 or above) recognised by the SSSC, in the category of support workers in a Housing Support Service / Care at Home service, or willingness to work towards this.
  • Understanding of benefits and budgeting support
  • Previous demonstrable experience working within an adult social care setting
  • Understanding of the Care Inspectorate and its purpose
  • Understanding of the SSSC and its purpose
  • A Positive Behaviour Support, or Trauma Informed Practice qualification or accreditation.

Sacro provide Restorative Justice and one to one Behavioural change programmes to assist young people to address offending behaviour and, where appropriate, to support young people to make amends to address their behaviour by making amends to the person they have harmed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working directly with young people as part of an existing Youth Justice team. The successful candidate should have experience of working with young people who offend and have knowledge of psychosocial and psychological interventions, Restorative Justice and experience of delivering group work programmes.

Who we are:

SU Scotland has a distinct position in children’s and youth ministry across Scotland, seeking to work in unity with churches, Christian youth organisations and Trusts. Our vision is to see every child and young people of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus. We are a national charity, with around 140 staff and over 2,500 volunteers. Our activities take place in schools, outdoor activity centres, and local communities.

Associate Trusts play an integral part in all of this.

The first Associate Trust began in 1994 as a partnership between local churches and SU Scotland in a local community enabling children and young people to discover God’s love and grow in their faith. Since then, there have been many Associate Trusts partnering with SU Scotland, resulting in thousands of children and young people having the opportunity to “discover, explore, respond and flourish.”

We are seeking a part-time (0.8 FTE) Associate Trust Network Lead to join our Local Ministries Team, to drive the strategic expansion of the Associate Trust network, as well as to resource existing Trusts, overseeing and strengthening current infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take an active role in visiting Associate Trusts and keep abreast with key priorities and challenges, as well as gaining an understanding of the Associate Trusts’ ministry through interaction with children and young people they work with.
  • Develop a three year strategy to expand the Associate Trust network.
  • Develop and coordinate training for Associate Trusts in consultation and in conjunction with the Local Ministries Management Team and the SU Scotland Learning Manager.
  • Provide support and guidance with regards to relevant policies and procedures, e.g. HR, Finance, GDPR, Safeguarding.
  • Develop ministry partnership for this post, inviting potential donors and prayer supporters to partner with you in this ministry.

Who we are looking for:

The successful applicant will have high levels of initiative, proven experience of charity sector governance and project management. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are also key with the ability to develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

For this post, it is important that you are able to demonstrate a commitment to SU Scotland’s ethos, working principles and vision. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act - part 1, schedule 9), that the post-holder is a committed Christian.

JOB PURPOSE

The aim of the Development Officer for food is to contribute to the delivery of the Lanarkshire Hub, build connection and understanding across community groups and create structures to enable the adoption of more strategic and collaborative approaches to the climate emergency across and between community groups, public and third sector partners. The Development Officer will be as inclusive as possible to ensure that no communities or groups are excluded from the support available from the Hub and will contribute to the recruitment.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Connect community organisations and conduct a mapping exercise to understand the issues and barriers encountered and levels of climate crisis awareness
  • Research and prepare guides on examples of best practice for community led climate action projects
  • Assist community groups and organisations on design, development and delivery of climate action projects, including through engagement and data collection to gain the funding, support and collaboration to achieve the project aims.
  • Promotion of the Hub’s Small Grants programme. Advising community groups and organisations on support available through Small Grants.
  • Promote and assist to deliver the Hub’s Climate Action Festival.
  • Empower, encourage and support communities across the area to contribute to policy at both local and national level on climate change, environmental and social issues. Liaise with key strategic partners and stakeholders locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Delivery of activities to achieve KPIs that you are responsible for and supporting colleagues to achieve theirs.
  • Identifies, plans and delivers formal training, learning or knowledge exchanges to increase knowledge and understanding of climate change and of climate action (mitigation and adaptation) projects.
  • Represents community groups voices through participation in local, regional, national forums/networks and through written responses to local, regional, national policy consultations that relate to your climate theme.
  • Help build capacity within communities through the delivery of training, events, peer to peer learning, networking, and training events
  • Assist groups to identify external funding sources for their climate projects, and to prepare and submit good quality applications
  • Widen participation by engaging new communities and strengthening existing climate action activity.
  • Liaise with Hub Communication Officer to ensure consistent brand messaging, alignment of outreach strategies with community initiatives, and provide valuable insights for effective communication with target audiences

Experience of working with vulnerable individuals or people with long-term health conditions would also be an advantage.

Job Role

  • Develop the East Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub at Rouken Glen with a focus on community growing and as a demonstration site
  • Line manage the Climate Hub team to deliver the Climate Action Hub business plan and agreed activities
  • Oversight of the Climate Action Hub team’s work programme, guiding staff on priorities and timescales
  • Support the Climate Contact Worker by working with other managers to ensure a constructive approach to the recruitment and management of volunteers
  • Maintain good connections at a strategic level across East Renfrewshire with ERC Net Zero team
  • Oversight of improved access for East Renfrewshire residents to participate in Climate Action activity locally and/or nationally
  • Oversight of the wider Rouken Glen site for community, wellbeing and enterprise activity development
  • Oversight of site usage
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk register for all aspects of the site
  • Develop processes to ensure both regular and seasonal maintenance are carried out
