Milton Community Garden Manager

The Milton Community Garden Manager will lead the development and delivery of a thriving, community-led garden that improves local health and wellbeing, strengthens community relationships, and increases access to nature. The role will oversee staff, community-led programmes and the garden’s facilities and grounds to ensure the garden supports key outcomes of the National Lottery Community Action Fund.

The postholder will support the garden’s therapeutic, educational and environmental programmes; increase community participation; deliver community meals and activities in collaboration with the Milton Food Hub; and develop the garden as a sustainable asset, including preparing the site for future venue hire and income generation. This is a hands-on role with significant responsibility for operational management, partnership development, and community-led working.

Total of 18 hours per week, at salary £30102 (pro rata £15481) + 25 days Annual Leave & 12 Public Holidays pro rata + 7% pension contribution. Funding is in place until 31 July 2028, subject to annual funding review and required reports.

Abundant Borders works to reduce food insecurity, improve wellbeing and strengthen community resilience across the Scottish Borders. We do this by creating and supporting a network of community food gardens where people can learn to grow food sustainably, build skills, connect with others and improve their physical and mental health. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and our gardens provide welcoming, inclusive green spaces that bring communities together.

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, organised and community-minded Green Spaces Officer to support volunteers across our network of community gardens. This role will help people to take part in outdoor activities that improve wellbeing, increase confidence, and strengthen social connection.

Working closely with Garden Leaders and volunteer teams, the Green Spaces Officer will help ensure our gardens are safe, welcoming, inclusive environments where everyone can participate—particularly individuals facing disadvantage, isolation, or poor mental health.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, supporting people, and helping communities to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support volunteers to participate in garden sessions in inclusive, safe, positive ways
  • Provide 1:1 support where needed, helping individuals to build confidence and skills
  • Organise small group activities such as nature walks, seasonal tasks, wellbeing sessions, and gentle gardening
  • Work with staff and volunteers to ensure gardens remain welcoming, accessible community spaces
  • Help volunteers to set goals, reflect on progress, and engage fully in community life
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and volunteer feedback
  • Support the development of wellbeing-focused initiatives within garden settings
  • Liaise with referring partners (e.g. mental health teams, housing associations, support workers)

Greener Kirkcaldy is a community-led charity working locally to bring people together, take positive action on the climate emergency and support people through fuel poverty and food insecurity. We deliver a range of projects, events and skills training to achieve the needs and goals of local people – building resilience as a community and working towards a future where everyone can live better and tread more lightly on our planet.

Based in the heart of Kirkcaldy – with a community building, training kitchen, bike shop and garden – we carry out activities across Kirkcaldy and work with partners to deliver projects across Fife.

Growing and connection with nature has central to our work since the beginning. Our community training garden at Ravenscraig Walled Garden is a vibrant space. It offers courses, training and volunteer opportunities in gardening and growing. It also includes a community orchard, with over 100 fruit trees and a ‘wild area’ that is set aside for nature.

As lead partner of Climate Action Fife, we work with others to help people to garden in climate-friendly ways. We’ve helped people to plant fruit trees and we recently created a demonstration climate-friendly garden at our community building garden in Kirkcaldy town centre. We are always looking for new opportunities to help local people connect with nature on their doorstep.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate individual to lead and develop our growing and nature connection projects work.

As part of our Community Engagement Team, you will work with staff, volunteers and partners. You will plan and deliver a diverse range of events, training and volunteer opportunities around growing and nature. We are keen to strengthen our ‘Plot to Plate’ activities, so you will work with our Community Food Team to connect growing with cooking classes, meals and food access projects.

You will play a key role developing new projects and activities, both grant-funded and income generating. You will support a Community Garden Worker and an enthusiastic team of mixed-ability volunteers to maintain and develop our community gardens and coordinate day-to-day activities.

You don’t need to be an expert in climate change or biodiversity. We will provide training and you will be supported by a great team.

The Elsie Normington Foundation (ENF) is a Highland-based charity supporting children and young people with disabilities and complex needs. The Role

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and organised Café Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the Haven Café. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for delivering excellent hospitality while supporting and developing a team of volunteers, including young adults with learning disabilities and additional support needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operation of the café, including opening and closing procedures

About The Cats Whiskers:

The Cats Whiskers was formed in 2018 by a group of dedicated local volunteers, who saw a need in our local community for the care and re-homing of cats. Initially, these efforts were all carried out with the support of incredible foster carer volunteers. We are now thrilled to operate our re-homing centre in Alloa.

We also have a charity shop in Alva, opened in 2018, which generates income for our core purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming cats.

Purpose of the job:

Since welcoming the first cat into our shelter in October 2022, our activities have grown to meet

need. In 2023, we rehomed 150 cats. In 2024, this increased to 179. We have also had an increase

in foster care, launched a pet food bank, and become a distribution partner for The Blue Cross. We

are seeking to onboard this role, our first paid staff member, to ensure the smooth day to day

running of our Rehoming Centre on Broad Street. To take on this role, we are looking for someone

who shares our passion for cat welfare, and wants to provide a quality, community service,

supporting our incredible volunteer team, working with, and furthering our local partnerships, and

ensuring the best possible care for our cats.

Main Responsibilities:

As the Volunteer and Centre Coordinator, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the Centre, focusing on the welfare of all cats in our care, and managing our volunteer programme. You will also ensure that all administrative and maintenance procedures are completed to a high standard.

We are looking for someone who is positive, driven and has the ability to thrive under pressure. You will support the board of trustees to continue to develop our Centre and services to meet local need. You will be someone who has:

Our main aim is to offer sessional work to volunteers when they pass the 6-month probation as we SFS values lived experience.
