Ayrshire Cancer Support has operated since 1982, providing emotional support and practical help to those affected by cancer; this role will play a valuable part in supporting the services we offer. Our vision is to deliver a person centred, accessible, holistic family support service for children and young people with a cancer diagnoses, affected by the diagnosis of someone close to them, or bereaved from cancer.

We are looking for a caring and compassionate Family Support Practitioner to deliver high-quality emotional, social and practical support to children and young people who are affected by cancer. Children and Young People Support is one of our 8 core services delivered by our Care Services Team.

A knowledge of the impact of cancer on families, together with the experience and confidence to undertake work with children and young people is essential, with an ability to assess and respond to need according to emotional, psychological and intellectual development and apply appropriate interventions and creative therapeutic approaches.

You will have demonstratable professional experience of developing meaningful relationships and engaging with individuals in a person-centred way, providing support to children and/or young people, both individually and within a group environment.

Reporting to our Children and Young People Services Lead, you will be joining an established and experienced team and will be responsible for providing expert support to help meet the emotional, practical and social needs of children and young people affected by cancer.

This is a full-time role based over 35 hours / 5 days per week, worked between Monday to Friday within our Support Centres in Kilmarnock and Ayr, and so a driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential. We also require flexibility in relation to ‘after school’ activity, with regular evening (one per week) and occasional weekend work.

This role offers a 3-year fixed term contract, funded by the National Lottery

The House of Hope is Scotland's first community based support and wellbing centre specifically designed fo those impacted by breast cancer. We are now seeking to appoint up to three people to join our Board of Trustees, to steer us towards our vision of improving the life of all those affected by breast cancer, away from the sterile hospital or clinical settings.

About the role

Do you live in Edinburgh or the surrounding area?

As a senior community fundraiser, you’ll be an important part of the team building Breast Cancer Now’s presence in Scotland, with a particular focus on Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.

We’re looking for someone who is an experienced relationship builder, someone who can find and develop new supporters. You’ll need excellent local knowledge, and the enthusiasm to develop a brand-new fundraising region.

The successful candidate will also be part of the team working on our large-scale project supporting and growing Asda Tickled Pink, our award-winning partnership with Asda and CoppaFeel! which has already raised over £100 million.

You’ll work directly with passionate colleagues across Asda stores in your region driving new fundraising initiatives, inspiring communities and celebrating incredible successes.

No 2 days will look the same as you travel, connect and engage supporters to help us grow income to deliver our mission.

The role is initially offered as an 18-month contract with the potential to become permanent.

About you

You’re confident in approaching new contacts and are experienced in developing new relationships from scratch. This may currently be in a customer service, account management or stewardship role.

You’re experienced in managing and building new and established relationships with a focus on retention and income growth.

You’re enthusiastic, proactive, organised and unafraid to test and try new ideas.

You’re required to be involved being out and about in the community that you’re building, so you must be able to work independently outside of the office in varying locations and enjoy being busy.

Previous experience working in a charity is not required.

Primary location of role

This is a remote role, and the candidate will need to be based in the Edinburgh area with unlimited access to their own car. Regular travel will be required to meet supporters and visit Asda stores in your region, as well as occasional travel to our London, Sheffield or Glasgow office.

Often the people you encounter will be at a low point in their lives so you must be able to show empathy and forge a connection during that ‘reachable moment’, then back it up with the ability to create strong, trusting relationships which support people to access the help they need.

We are looking for individuals who have:

  • Direct experience of recovery and/or mental health issues

About Us

Recyke-a-bike (part of Fallin Community Enterprises) has been in operation since 2005. We began as a small recycling social enterprise that quickly grew into a job club, using bike recycling as work experience for our members. Purpose

To support the delivery of the Bikeability programme in partnership with Cycling Scotland and Stirling and Clackmannanshire local authorities. The Outreach Worker and Cycle Trainer will also support the delivery of all cycling-based activities delivered by Recyke-a-bike.

Responsibilities

Main:

  • Delivery of Bikeability Training to Children.
  • Delivery of Adult Cycle Training.
  • Maintenance of bikes and equipment for each of the following fleets: Stirling, Clackmannanshire, EBike, Practical Cycle Awareness Training (PCAT) and Adult Cycle Training Fleets.
  • Managing health and safety within area of responsibility.
  • Carrying out risk assessments for Bikeability sessions.
  • Planning, risk assessing and delivering other cycle related sessions, events and activities.
  • External liason with third parties including schools, local councils, community groups and organisations, as well as charities and businesses.
  • Attending team meetings.
  • Attending continuous professional development (CPD) training.

Additional:

  • Building bikes for the shop when not busy.
  • Collecting bike donations for the shop.
  • Deliver Doctor Bike services across the Forth Valley when required.
  • Assisting other departments where needed.
  • Any other reasonable duties consistent with working for a small charitable organisation.
