Job Role

The purpose of the Climate Hub Lead role is to lead our small, dedicated team while staying closely connected to day-to-day operations, helping shape the next stage of VAER’s growth at our exciting new development at Rouken Glen, including the development of the East Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub at the site.

This is a hands-on and varied role, ideal for someone who enjoys combining big-picture thinking with practical, community-focused delivery.

Key Tasks

Working alongside the wider Voluntary Action staff team, Climate Action team and in collaboration with our 3rd, public and independent sector partners you will:

  • Develop the East Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub at Rouken Glen with a focus on community growing and as a demonstration site
  • Line manage the Climate Hub team to deliver the Climate Action Hub business plan and agreed activities
  • Oversight of the Climate Action Hub team’s work programme, guiding staff on priorities and timescales
  • Support the Climate Contact Worker by working with other managers to ensure a constructive approach to the recruitment and management of volunteers
  • Maintain good connections at a strategic level across East Renfrewshire with ERC Net Zero team
  • Oversight of improved access for East Renfrewshire residents to participate in Climate Action activity locally and/or nationally
  • Oversight of the wider Rouken Glen site for community, wellbeing and enterprise activity development
  • Oversight of site usage
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive risk register for all aspects of the site
  • Develop processes to ensure both regular and seasonal maintenance are carried out

Build a local Digital Inclusion Innovation Community:

  • Convene partners to share learning, build relationships and identify shared priorities
  • Facilitate networks, workshops and events that drive collaborative innovation
  • Strengthen third sector capacity
  • Support organisations to grow skills, confidence and capability in digital inclusion
  • Broaden participation and champion community‑led approaches
  • Help local groups access funding to develop new ideas and approaches

Support national learning and alignment:

You will lead community engagement, stakeholder relationships, and work with people with lived experience of homelessness to inform and influence practice. Role specifics

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and motivational skills, enthusiasm for delivering workshops and presentations, with proficiency in IT and CRM systems. Experience in advice work, preferably with a housing focus, alongside knowledge of housing or social justice issues and the ability to develop specialist expertise, is highly valued. You will have a knowledge and understanding of the importance of attachment, trauma and how this can impact on an individual’s development. At times our children express their distress through their behaviour and the role can be emotionally and physically challenging; we are therefore looking for someone who is resilient, understands that behaviour is a means of communication and is trauma responsive.

You will be skilled in building therapeutic relationships with the children, young people and young adults to enable them to feel safe, loved and cared for.

You must have the ability to quickly build your relationships with the adults within the house. The nature of the role is such that whilst joining a team for one house, you may be asked to support one of our other homes and you may also be supporting young people to attend school or participate in other learning programmes. You must therefore be able to quickly adapt to the different working environments.

You will be comfortable with working within Aberlour’s culture embracing respect, integrity, innovation and the ability to challenge. You must be able to be an exceptional role model for other staff and the young person.

We are delighted to have recently secured funding for Phase 7 of CashBack – ‘Location CashBack’. Working together with Youth Scotland, Guides and Scouts – Location CashBack is a three-year Leadership and Participation programme funded by Scottish Government CashBack for Communities Funding.

Location CashBack will support young people aged 10-25 years in SIMD 1-2 areas who may also face barriers including being impacted by poverty, crime and anti-social behaviour.

Building on connections to trusted local youth groups, like the BB, it will offer safe spaces, mentoring, personal development and leadership opportunities that open new pathways for learning, life and work.

We are now looking to recruit a part-time Development worker to lead the Location CashBack project with our local groups.
