You will need to have good communication skills to engage with the local community to seek out new opportunities to increase the shops contribution to help further Shelter’s cause. You will develop your own and your teams’ interests in merchandising the shop attracting customers and continually develop yours and your team’s knowledge of Shelter, who we are and what we do.

What is a Trustee?

In simple terms:Trustees are the guardians of our charity – ensuring we stay true to our mission of helping cancer patients access treatment while managing our resources responsibly and planning for sustainable growth.

The legal bit:Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it's doing what it was set up to do. They exercise their powers and duties with care, always acting in the charity's best interests, ensuring compliance with charity law and our governing document.

You'll be part of a supportive boardworking collaboratively to govern The Driving Force effectively.

Time Commitment

We respect that trustees are volunteers with busy lives. Here's what we ask:

Core Commitment:

  • 5-6 board meetingsper year (approximately 1 1/2 hours each, scheduled in advance)
  • Occasional email/phone consultations(1-2 hours per month)
  • Annual strategic planning session(half day)

Total time: approximately 15-20 hours per year

Flexibility:We schedule meetings with trustees' availability in mind. If you can't make a meeting, we just ask for advance notice.

Additional Involvement (Optional):Some trustees choose to get involved in specific projects, sub-committees, or events – but this is entirely voluntary.

We are seeking compassionate, creative and collaborative applicants who want to make a difference to the lives of young people affected someone else’s substance use. The role involves working alongside young people to plan and organise groups and activities of their choice. We are looking for candidates who are educated to HNC level or have relevant work experience, ideally with experience of planning and organising groups for young people. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high degree of motivation and have the ability to work on their own as well as part of a team. An ability to cover on-call is an advantage (additional payments are made for this role).

As these services are registered with the Care Inspectorate, you will be required to pay an annual fee to maintain your registration.

It’s an exciting time to be part of Scottish Huntington’s Association with the implementation of Standing Tall: A Strategy For Growth 2023 – 28 to transform the care and support of Huntington’s families, expand services, raise awareness and deepen our involvement and support for world-leading research and clinical trials.

We are looking for a Health and Social Care professional to join our nationwide network of Huntington’s Disease Specialists to provide care management, specialist assessment and emotional support to individuals and families across Scotland.

Working in partnership with local Health and Social Care teams, you will also provide advice, training and education to professionals and voluntary agencies involved in all aspects of Huntington’s disease care.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to have a positive influence on the quality of life of the individuals and families they support. This role is open to medical and health and social care staff from backgrounds such as nursing, allied health, social work and medicine. Professional body membership is essential. Previous experience of Huntington’s disease is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.

You should be able to work autonomously in this challenging and rewarding position. Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills are vital, as are excellent time keeping and caseload management abilities. Community-based practice knowledge, a driving licence and use of a car complete our list of essential criteria. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced disclosure check.

Scottish Huntington’s Association is the only charity in Scotland dedicated exclusively to the care and support of individuals and families whose lives are impacted by Huntington’s disease, an incurable neurological condition with severe and complex physical, mental health and cognitive symptoms.

You will find a values-driven organisation, founded by families for families and recognised at national and international levels for expertise in supporting the Huntington’s disease community.

​About this role

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Outreach and Support Worker to join our team working primarily across Perth and Kinross & Dundee and Tayside, with occasional work in nearby areas. You will be the first person our participants meet, so knowledge of services within this area would be beneficial.

You’ll be a caring, dynamic and driven person, dedicated to levelling the playing field and equipping people with the tools they need to thrive. You’ll be comfortable and confident working autonomously alongside people with complex lives.

​Working across your area, you’ll provide bespoke and holistic 1:1 support for participants, spending time to get to know them, their strengths and where they want to go. You will prepare participants for wilderness journeys and support them to identify and work towards positive progression opportunities.

We need you to work closely with referrers and partners to provide joined up support for participants, managing the differing needs of your case load, including working with young people and adults.

The Outreach and Support Worker is an essential role at Venture Trust. Your skill at fostering positive, trusting relationships with people could be life changing.

​As an Outreach and Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one support for participants, identifying and removing barriers to participation and supporting them towards their individual goals
  • Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, generating referrals for all programmes
  • Promote Venture Trust within local communities
  • Work closely with referral partners and any other stakeholders to provide joined up support for participants
  • Work within a team structure with hybrid working arrangements

(N.B. For workers who are keen to support wilderness journeys, there may be opportunities to do this, but it is not essential.)
