Help us rewrite the future of how Scotland cares for dying children

We are looking for an ambitious Policy and External Affairs Officer to help drive change in how Scotland supports babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions.

This is a rare opportunity to influence national and local policy working across policy, public affairs and strategic communications, supporting CHAS to shape public debate and strengthen the system of support around families.

You’ll work on high-impact priorities, contribute to national conversations, and help ensure that the voices of children and families inform decision-making at every level.

About the role

Working closely with the Policy and External Affairs Manager and a high-performing Marketing and Communications team, you will:

• Contribute to policy development and advocacy that informs national and local decision-making

• Shape and deliver strategic campaigns and communications to drive increased awareness and influence positive change

• Support engagement with MSPs, civil servants, local government and partners, building CHAS’ influence

• Deliver insight, analysis and briefings that position CHAS as a trusted, expert voice on children’s palliative care and public health issues

• Work across the organisation to ensure lived experience and evidence are at the heart of our work

This is more than a policy or communications role. You’ll contribute to system-level change, gain exposure to national policy development and public debate, and work as part of a collaborative, ambitious and values-driven team.

You’ll have responsibility from the outset, with opportunities to develop your skills and build your career in public affairs, policy and strategic communications.

Dial-a-Journey first started in business in 1986 with the aim of providing affordable and accessible transport for residents of the Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire Council areas. By joining Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) as a Supported SelfManagement Facilitator, you can be the difference between people just surviving and really living.

You will be part of Scotland’s leading charity providing support to people with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live life to the full again. Our Community Healthcare Support Services form a nationwide network of local services, including our Supported Self-Management programme, community support groups, nurses, volunteers and one-to-one support teams helping families adjust to life with a heart or lung condition or after a stroke.

We are looking for a Supported Self-Management Facilitator to join our amazing team in the Dumfries & Galloway area. This role is focused on making sure that people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions have access to our evidence-based Chronic Disease Supported Self Management programme, enabling people with our conditions to live with, and beyond, their new reality.

Through delivering our Supported Self-Management programme, you will support people to develop the skills, knowledge and tools to confidently selfmanage their health condition and live as independently as possible. You’ll also

help people to get back to doing the things that are important to them – from simple things like walking to their local shop following a stroke, to returning to a sky-high hobby of gliding!

You will co-facilitate the delivery of our 6-week Chronic Disease Self Management workshops with another trained facilitator and line manage any volunteers who support the delivery of these sessions. You will lead and motivate participants within a group setting to take control of their lives in a positive way, raising their confidence and empowering them to develop the skills to set and achieve goals, make strong and supportive connections with their workshop peers and make meaningful changes to their lifestyle to support their ongoing self management journey. Candidates don’t need to have medical knowledge, or previous experience as a Chronic Disease Supported Self-Management Facilitator, as full training is provided. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude towards people with disabilities and long-term conditions and an understanding of the challenges faced by people with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to engage with others confidently and deliver key information, clearly. The Low Carbon Communities Team at Changeworks is a small, dynamic team that focuses on exploring how community engagement can support householders to become more energy efficient and actively supporting people to move towards action. We’re looking for a Low Carbon Communities Officer to help smoothly and successfully deliver community-based energy advice projects across Scotland. In this role, you’ll work with local partners and directly with communities to make energy advice more accessible, with a particular focus on supporting people in rural areas and minoritised ethnic communities. You’ll help manage projects, engage local stakeholders and help develop new approaches to community engagement that support households to tackle fuel poverty and decarbonise their homes.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, comfortable working across multiple projects and have a keen interest in designing new approaches to community engagement. They will always know where they are against project plans and be thinking ahead to the next step. This is a role that is people-oriented so they will also be a strong communicator and enjoy working with project stakeholders and the public.

We’re particularly keen to receive applications from people with experience of working with minoritised ethnic communities and tailoring support to meet their needs.

We are recruiting for one or two roles, through either full-time or part-time working patterns, based in the Central Belt or Highlands.
