What is a Trustee?

In simple terms:Trustees are the guardians of our charity – ensuring we stay true to our mission of helping cancer patients access treatment while managing our resources responsibly and planning for sustainable growth.

The legal bit:Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it's doing what it was set up to do. They exercise their powers and duties with care, always acting in the charity's best interests, ensuring compliance with charity law and our governing document.

You'll be part of a supportive boardworking collaboratively to govern The Driving Force effectively.

Time Commitment

We respect that trustees are volunteers with busy lives. Here's what we ask:

Core Commitment:

  • 5-6 board meetingsper year (approximately 1 1/2 hours each, scheduled in advance)
  • Occasional email/phone consultations(1-2 hours per month)
  • Annual strategic planning session(half day)

Total time: approximately 15-20 hours per year

Flexibility:We schedule meetings with trustees' availability in mind. If you can't make a meeting, we just ask for advance notice.

Additional Involvement (Optional):Some trustees choose to get involved in specific projects, sub-committees, or events – but this is entirely voluntary.

We are seeking to appoint passionate Support Workers who are capable of becoming part of our dynamic and creative Recovery team. Being a support worker is a role where you can make everyday matter. The postholders, together with their colleagues, will provide a range of support interventions opportunities and activities, including 1-1 sessions with participants. The team will also deliver and host a range of group work programmes, workshop activities and events suited to locality-based needs and individual Beacons. One aim of the Beacons is to work together with participants to support their social (re)integration, promoting recovery, resilience, and self-determination. You will be engaged in multi-agency working and establishing pathways with other partners and agencies to facilitate people’s positive engagement with the Beacons.

The ideal candidate will:

About Boom!

Boom! is a small charity working primarily in the North of Glasgow, delivering community art workshops and engaging in local events. Our mission, to“engage with communities to deliver creative, exciting, and accessible arts projects that enrich lives and strengthen communities”is underpinned by our values: Creativity, Working Together, Respect, Fun, and Quality.

We engage a small pool of freelance artists to deliver this work, which currently centres around three regular workshop strands (for both adults and young people), and participation in community events. Our freelance administrative staff (total 0.6 FTE) work to support delivery, fundraise, and contribute to our drive to develop new earned income streams.

About our Board

Our existing Board of four are committed, engaged, and have been with the charity since its inception in 2017; we recognise the need for, and welcome, fresh eyes and perspectives. As a small charity which has grown organically and with an eye toward sustainability, we are at a key point in our development as we seek to grow the reach and capacity of the organisation.

Expected commitment

Board meetings take place either in-person in North Glasgow or online, four times per year, and board members also contribute to or oversee other ongoing areas of work including finance, policy and strategy development, safeguarding, and project ideation. Our Chair is regularly an Elf in our annual Santa’s Saunter.

We hope that any potential candidates could commit to a 2-3 year term, and could be involved in progressing pieces of work between board meetings.
