Distress Response Worker

Compassionate Distress Response Service

Glasgow Association for Mental Health is one of the principal providers of community mental health services in Greater Glasgow. We are commissioned by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership to deliver a Compassionate Distress Response Service (CDRS) for people in distress who do not require a medical or clinical intervention. We would like to recruit for our Out of Hours Pathway for Emergency Services, First Responders, the Mental Health Assessment Units etc. The OOHs service operates 7 days a week Monday through to Sunday 5pm -2am.

The service operates from our GAMH Head Office – St Andrews by the Green, 33 Turnbull Street, Glasgow.

We wish to appoint the following:

  • Compassionate Distress Response Service 1 x Distress Response Worker (full time)
  • OOH service – (REF: DRW/OOH/FT)
  • 37.5 hours per/week: Mon to Sun 5pm – 2am (4 days on 4 days off 9.38 hours per night).
  • Salary - £28,485 per annum
  • Fixed term to 31 March 2027 (may be extended dependent on funding)

Key Skills:

Good communication skills to be able to work effectively with referrers and individuals using the service. Compassionate listening, be able to alleviate individual’s feelings of distress. Be highly resourceful in supporting individuals i.e., identifying coping strategies, self-management techniques and onward referral where appropriate. Be confident and competent to apply risk assessment, safety planning, and escalation processes where appropriate. SVQ 3 or equivalent or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification is essential.

Glasgow East End Community Carers vision is to relieve the needs of individuals resident in the east end of Glasgow and suffering from any mental or physical disability, illness or impairment (which may include age associated problems) and their carers.

We're looking for an experienced and proactive Hub Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our Carers’ Hub while helping us prepare for the future.

This is a key hands-on position within our organisation – The Hub Manager will lead a small team of support workers to deliver services that will improve the lives of unpaid carers in the East End of Glasgow.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO, you will work closely with the Homecare Manager to develop the organisation’s potential and expand the services on offer to carers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the provision of all services for carers provided by the Hub ensuring that the delivery of these services is to the highest standard and in accordance with the Carers’ Strategy.
  • Prepare and agree with Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors Strategic and Operational Plans that prioritise work and provide performance indicators and measurable outcomes.
  • Manage the identification of ways of enhancing support and service provision for carers, which are responsive to the needs of carers within the area served.
  • Manage and play an active role in the Hub’s activities and events to support carers and increase awareness of the Carers Hub within the catchment area.
  • Lead the promotion of increased training opportunities for carers and facilitate the delivery of training by agencies involved in supporting carers.
  • Ensure all the Carers Hub employees always show a commitment to equal opportunities policies.
  • Ensure the ongoing financial stability of the centre and while completing grant applications to maximise fundraising, allowing the Hub to provide more opportunities for carers.
  • Manage social media and website updates as necessary and links with carers.

Maintain appropriate links with carers to ensure that they are fully informed of the service provision

Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage the recruitment, training, and support of all paid staff within the Carers Hub.
  • Ensure all records are maintained within the Carers Hub that will inform the evaluation of services in line with the needs of funders.
  • Ensure that the working environment complies with Health and Safety Regulations and legal requirements and that all staff are aware of their responsibilities in terms of their own safety and that of colleagues and visitors to the Carers Hub.
  • Ensure all administrative systems of the office are appropriate and in place.
  • Communicate with Carers’ Hub staff to ensure that personnel are fully informed and trained to enable them to carry out their job effectively.
  • Participate in relevant networks to be aware of current developments with regards to carers’ needs and support both nationwide and locally

Responsibilities in respect of the Chief Executive Officer:

  • Advise the Chief Executive Officer in facilitating and reviewing policy.
  • Provide written reports for the Board on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Facilitate links between the Chief Executive Officer and other partner agencies as appropriate.
  • Undertake any other duties which assist the Chief Executive Officer to develop the Carers Hub in accordance with the aims, objectives and legal requirements of the Organisation as determined by the Board of Directors.

About Glasgow Perinatal Service

By working alongside new parents, we aim to facilitate recovery from problematic substance use and improve parenting capacity and confidence to positively impact on the outcomes for both parents and their new babies.

The service will work across 7 days per week operating within the hours of 8am to 8pm to flexibly meet the needs of the parents and families being supported. The work will cover prebirth to baby’s first birthday offering strength based whole family support.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit one Intensive Perinatal Support Worker to work 37.5 hours per week. Funding from Scottish Government is currently secured until March 2027, however with successful outcomes we are hopeful that this specialised work would be extended further. We are looking for candidates with a sound knowledge of child development and experience of working with individuals with problematic substance and/or alcohol use.

We encourage people to apply who have lived experience of alcohol or drug use, with a minimum of 2 years living in recovery, free from all drug use and problem drinking.

We are looking for a Health and Social Care professional to join our nationwide network of Huntington’s Disease Specialists to provide care management, specialist assessment and emotional support to individuals and families across Scotland.

Working in partnership with local Health and Social Care teams, you will also provide advice, training and education to professionals and voluntary agencies involved in all aspects of Huntington’s disease care.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated to have a positive influence on the quality of life of the individuals and families they support. This role is open to medical and health and social care staff from backgrounds such as nursing, allied health, social work and medicine. Professional body membership is essential. Previous experience of Huntington’s disease is advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.

You should be able to work autonomously in this challenging and rewarding position. Good listening, communication and interpersonal skills are vital, as are excellent time keeping and caseload management abilities. Community-based practice knowledge, a driving licence and use of a car complete our list of essential criteria. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced disclosure check.

Scottish Huntington’s Association is the only charity in Scotland dedicated exclusively to the care and support of individuals and families whose lives are impacted by Huntington’s disease, an incurable neurological condition with severe and complex physical, mental health and cognitive symptoms.

Key challenges of the role will include implementing a new online payment system, recruiting and developing volunteer teams and promoting the footcare service through partnership development and marketing activities.

Our footcare clinics are delivered by volunteers. The Co-ordinator role includes organising regular training including with the NHS podiatry team, mentoring and supporting volunteers, promoting good communication and holding regular volunteer team meetings.

The post is initially funded by Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership for up to 2 years, however, the aim of the socially enterprising project is that it will become self-sustaining through the income raised by the service.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about health promotion and community engagement with strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
