Gorebridge Community Development Trust is a community-owned and managed Scottish Charity helping the community regenerate Gorebridge, alleviate the impact of post-industrial decline and create a vibrant, dynamic, proud and close-knit community. The Trust is at the heart of community, economic, environmental and social regeneration activity, and has active partnerships with statutory and local agencies working across a wide range of issues concerning Gorebridge. The Trust has a 21 year track record in successfully developing a wide range of community initiatives.

Gorebridge Beacon’s conception was led by the community; its physical development was overseen by the community and it will be delivered and managed by the community.

Gorebridge Community Development Trust (GCDT) is recruiting trustees who understand the role and the importance of governance in the third sector. We are looking for people who share our core values of inclusion, community, equality, people first and collaboration.

GCDT is a development trust, a member of the Development Trust Association Scotland established in 2004. GCDT is member led and our work includes the economic, environmental and social regeneration of EH23, we are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. An independent charity, however, we also seek to work in partnership with other private, voluntary and public sector organisations.

Our board is made up of 12 trustees, 9 of which are members of the organisation, and 3 co-opted individuals. Ideally you will have experience of working at a senior management level and will have a deep understanding of the nature of community development.

We are also keen to speak with you if you match one or more of the following criteria with your professional or lived experience:

  • National and local government and statutory bodies

Commitment

The board meets monthly, either face-to-face (most common), via video chat, or as a hybrid of the two.

The duration of Board meetings is usually no longer than 3 hours.

All relevant papers are forwarded on a reasonable timescale, either via email or posted in hard copy.

Being a trustee is a voluntary role but GCDT will cover relevant out-of-pocket travel and other expenses that would allow you to attend meetings.

Aside from the board meeting, additional time consideration should be given to allow for time to read through relevant papers, follow up on any action points, and may involve attending occasional additional meetings, events, or strategy days.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be fully responsible for efficient running and development of operations, staffing and facilities management of the Beacon community hub. The main areas of work are people management, financial, facilities management, health and safety and communication and events.

The successful applicant will require initiative, energy and a joy in building relationships. A combination of flexibility, enthusiasm, innovation and sound organisational skills is essential. A personal commitment to fairness, equality and diversity is essential.

Finance Officer

The Beacon is a community project of GCDT. It is a multi-purpose community hub which has a community cafe and venue hire. It also has leased spaces of varying sizes and purposes, including offices and a nursery.

The trust’s income is provided by grant funding alongside the social enterprise activities of the Beacon. Ideally, the successful candidate will have relevant experience of financial reporting of these.

Using xero accounting software and associated programmes they will ensure that the charity remains compliant with all statutory financial regulations that apply to the Trust and its subsidiary activities. Providing accurate data to meet reporting on all requirements, both statutory and internal.

The Finance Officer is a key role within the Trust’s staff team and will build effective relationships with the GCDT Board and Management Team to maintain and improve our finance functions.
