About Us

Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid (CADWA) SCIO is a voluntary organisation based in Cumbernauld providing a confidential service offering valuable information, support and temporary accommodation to women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse in the Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, Stepps, Moodiesburn, Chryston, Mount Ellen and Gartcosh areas. CADWA also campaigns to raise awareness of domestic abuse and supports other domestic and sexual violence services throughout the area. Referrals mainly come from Social Work, educational professionals and Housing in addition to self referrals.

As a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid is controlled by an independent, voluntary Board of Directors drawn from the local community and is also accountable to funders including Scottish Government.

Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid is a member of Scottish Women’s Aid and works in partnership with other Women’s Aid organisations throughout Great Britain to maintain an “open door” policy which allows women to access Refuges in any part of the country if they feel the need to move out of their local area.

We believe women and children have a right to live free from all forms of violence and abuse and that society has a duty to recognise and defend this right. Domestic violence is a violation of human rights.

Board currently has 6 members but can have a maximum of 9.

About the Role

CADWA is looking for up to 4 committed women with a strong background in one or more of the following areas to join the Board as Trustees guiding the strategic direction of the organisation.

  • Finance, Fundraising,
  • Lived experience of domestic abuse or service user experience with Women’s Aid or similar organisations
  • Being a charity trustee
  • Local knowledge and connections as a resident in the area CADWA serves.

We would also welcome applications from young women and from women who may not have Board experience but who are passionate about creating a better future for those who have been affected by domestic abuse.

You do not need to be an expert on domestic abuse or other forms of violence against women, but you will need to prove that you are interested in our work, be reliable, action focussed and committed to our principles and values.

Board meetings currently take place 6 weekly during the day at our office in Cumbernauld. Where this is not possible Board members can attend by video link. The positions are voluntary but we will provide you with training and support and pay your expenses.

North Lanarkshire Women’s Aid (NLWA), based in Cumbernauld, provides a specialist support service to women, children and young people who are experiencing domestic violence in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area.

Following a period of development and reprioritisation initiated by the Board in late 2022 we are now seeking a Manager who will continue this work, provide strong leadership to a committed and enthusiastic team and an excellent standard of service delivery to enable women, children, and young people to live free from domestic abuse.

The postholder will have a background managing crisis services, ideally with Women's Aid experience, and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to feminist values.

She will work with the Board to develop a strategic plan, identify and secure ongoing funding and work in partnership with local organisations to support the delivery of North Lanarkshire Council's strategic objectives addressing gender based violence.

NLWA is funded by the Scottish Government's Equally Safe Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund.

35 hours a week, 9.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. (inc 30 minute unpaid lunch break) Monday – Friday

Evenings and weekends as required on a rota basis to provide on-call support to women in our refuge accommodation. An additional payment is made for this.

As the successful applicant you will be able to demonstrate a high degree of motivation and organisation, have the ability to lead and develop a team and to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service. You will also have a passion for improving the lives of families who have experienced abuse.

You must hold, or gain within 18 months of appointment at your own expense and in your own time, the appropriate practice and management qualifications to enable registration with the SSSC as the Manager of a Housing Support Service. Children and Young people's Support Worker

To provide support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse in the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth area. The posts are based in our office in central Cumbernauld and the postholders will deliver support in local primary and secondary schools and in the community.

17.5 hours a week, mornings 9 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. Monday – Friday

Evenings and weekends as required to provide on-call support to women in our refuge accommodation. An additional payment is made for this.

The nature of our work requires a commitment to the values and ethos of Women's Aid.

The successful applicants will undertake the initial assessment of children and young people referred to our service and implement and monitor appropriate support plans liaising closely with other members of the NLWA team, school staff and other professionals as required.

The successful applicants will have at least SVQ Level III or equivalent level of qualification in childcare or other relevant subject, or equivalent experience and willingness to work towards a qualification at their own expense and in their own time. They will be able to demonstrate a high degree of motivation and have the ability to work as part of a team as well as flexible hours to suit the needs of families. This post is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund until mid 2024. The initial contract is for 12 months from the date of appointment with any extension dependent on continued funding being secured.

Family Support Worker (women, children and young people)

Applicant will have at least SVQ Level III or equivalent level of qualification in business administration or other relevant subject, or equivalent significant office experience. A willingness to work towards a qualification at their own expense and in their own time would be an advantage.

They should have excellent communication and IT skills, good time management and organisational skills and be willing to work as part of a team and be flexible in their approach.
