The role

At Crohn’s & Colitis UK, we are seeking a dedicated Policy Lead to play a pivotal role in shaping our policy initiatives in alignment with our strategic objectives and UK-wide influencing priorities. As a Policy Lead, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the development of policies that ensure a strong and influential voice for individuals affected by Crohn’s and Colitis.

Working closely with the Head of Policy and Campaigns and the Policy Manager, you will actively engage in effective policy development and advocacy efforts, making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of people across the UK. This role will require some attendance at Scottish Parliament and Government offices for face-to-face meetings.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Knowledge and Information Manager to lead our recently expanded Knowledge and Information team. In this role you will have responsibility for leading the development of our highly regarded information and resources to support and empower everyone affected by Crohn’s or Colitis. This includes our evidence-based online and printed publications, web content, research summaries and other information.

About you

You will be skilled in the translation of complex medical and health information into engaging and accessible patient information and have experience of working with patients and healthcare professionals to develop information resources in line with recognised standards.

You’ll be:-

• educated to degree level in a scientific discipline or have the equivalent experience

• experienced in appraising research and translating this for patients and the public

• proficient in measuring the effectiveness of a promotion and dissemination and use of information

• effective in managing and leading a team

• and you’ll have a calm, consistent and flexible approach to work and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

The role

In this exciting new role, you would work collaboratively with colleagues at the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), supporting the development of their consensus guidelines on the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). You’ll champion and facilitate authentic and impactful patient involvement and lead the development of resources for patients to communicate key information from the consensus guidelines.

Collaboration is at the heart of our approach. As part of the Knowledge and Information Team, you'll work on award-winning patient information. This includes our evidence-based printed publications, web content, research summaries, videos and other digital materials, to support and empower everyone affected by Crohn’s and Colitis.

Occasional early morning and late evening work will be required.

About you

Are you experienced facilitating meaningful patient involvement and producing patient information that is evidence-based, accessible and engaging?

As our ideal candidate, you have significant experience in co-production, user involvement and user testing. You’re skilled at translating complex research into engaging and accessible content. Your interpersonal skills enable you build influential relationships and collaboration is at the heart of your approach. You have excellent communication skills and are calm, consistent and committed to the values of Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

Permanent - Full-Time (35 hours a week). Job share considered. Place of work: hybrid - the role requires some attendance at face-to-face meetings in the Scottish Parliament, therefore applications are welcomed from people living in, or with easy access to, Edinburgh.

The role requires some attendance at meetings at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh and the charity meets four times a year at its office in Hatfield for our 'All Staff Together' days.
