Shakti provides information, emotional/practical support and refuge/temporary accommodation to all black minority ethnic women and their children, who are experiencing or fleeing domestic abuse.
The post holder will support Black and Minority Ethnic women, their children and young people experiencing and/or fleeing domestic abuse or forced marriage. Applicants ideally have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with Black and Minority Ethnic Communities; especially, women, children, and young people; an understanding of the legislative and cultural issues surrounding domestic abuse/forced marriage and their effects on Black and Minority Ethnic women, their children and young people.
The post holder must have a minimum of SVQ Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF7 or above to meet registration requirements of SSSC or relevant qualification such as degree in Social Work or Community Education and must be a bilingual speaker in Hindi and or Urdu and or Punjabi.
The post
The children and young people’s outreach worker post is funded by City of Edinburgh. The purpose of the job is to provide dedicated support to BME children whose mothers are no longer Shakti’s clients and or are not accessing Women’s Aid services. The worker will be supporting children and young people (CYP) who self refer themselves and or referred by other agencies. The worker will support and help the CYP to deal with the practical and emotional difficulties, which arise from family circumstances, domestic abuse/honour-based violence. Support may take the form of group or individual play activities enabling one to one contact/befriending or liaising with statutory services such as education, to ensure that the child is accessing mainstream services. The post holder will be working with children and young people in schools and other community based youth centres, on her own or in partnership with the information and education worker.
Each worker has an individual job remit and responsibilities. However, we work as a closely integrated team, and take responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of the service are covered. All workers will therefore be required on occasion (e.g. at times of staff shortage) to carry out duties that are not specifically theirs. All workers are required to undertake any training that the manager considers necessary and to attend the weekly group and any other business meetings.

Overall Job Purpose
As a member of Shakti Women’s Aid, you will provide the highest possible standard of support to BME children and young people who experience domestic abuse and that are not currently accessing Shakti Women’s Aid refuge and follow-on services.

The post holder must have knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse within Black Minority Ethnic communities.
She should have a relevant qualification, preferably HNC or equivalent in administration related subject, and a working knowledge of an office.

As the Operational Manager within SHAKTI you are accountable to the CEO to support that role in ensuring an enhanced level specialist trauma informed support service to women children and young people who have been subjected to domestic abuse.
You will contribute to the senior management team to ensure the organisation fully meets its aims and objectives.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Operational Manager is expected to work with minimum supervision and take on responsibilities of all relevant operational day to day decisions as delegated by the CEO.
You will be expected to perform key activities to an enhanced level and take the lead. You will provide some management duties for the team and coaching and mentoring services to colleagues. You may be required to deputise for the CEO as required.

We are committed to creating a safe space for Children and Young People to show up and be who they are without shame, judgement, embarrassment or fear. To create a safe space for them no matter their age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability or disability, gender reassignment, faith or religious beliefs.
As a Shakti Children’s Worker you will provide a child or young person holistic support around their experiences. Working in partnership with their parent (where appropriate) to help them deal with the practical and emotional difficulties, which arise from family circumstances and domestic abuse. This support may take place in refuge, temporary accommodation, school or another safe place.
You will use dynamic innovative techniques to provide therapeutic support in one-to-one sessions. Allowing the young person to safely and creatively engage with their trauma through, play, art, movement and imagination. In addition to these individual support session you will also support the other Children Workers in delivering an extensive program of group activities, encouraging children and young people to access local events and attractions to further develop their social networks.
A key aspect of Getting it Right for Every Child is the ability to work effectively with other professionals. To communicate their needs and advocate on their behalf, challenging racial discrimination and stigma they may face.
Each worker has the responsibility for managing their individual caseload but we are a close and devoted team, and are looking for someone to join us who is motivated to seek the best outcomes for children and young people. All Children’s Workers will receive intensive training and shadowing to prepare them for their role and be required to attend weekly team meetings.

Our Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Shakti Women’s Aid as their Finance Worker.
