The postholder will work alongside our children and young people to devise and implement planned programmes of work which support their understanding of their life experiences; enhance their identity and self-esteem and promote healthy emotional development.
The postholder will work with the Practice Manager for Adoption and Fostering Support to ensure the voice of lived experience shapes service design and delivery and to embed children’s rights at the heart of all we do.

The bulk of our services are delivered across Edinburgh and the Lothians, although we work with Local Authorities from across Scotland and other parts of the UK. We are an ambitious organisation with strong governance. In recent years we have undertaken a journey of incremental growth, combined with launching a number of adoption support initiatives including our sector leading Adoption Therapy Centre for Children.
Scottish Adoption now has a number of vacancies on our Board and we would love to hear from individuals with leadership expertise, experience and skills in the following areas:

In addition to the general duties of all trustees, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, and providing advice and guidance requested by the board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of the organisation's work in which the trustee has special expertise.
The main Board meets four times a year and members may be asked to support our sub groups as required. The initial appointment is for a 3 year term with the opportunity for reappointment.
The role is a voluntary one but reasonable expenses can be paid.
Scottish Adoption delivers high quality, innovative services to everyone affected by adoption. Every year we place up to 50 children who can no longer live with their birth families with adoptive parents living within an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. These are some of society’s most vulnerable children who may have seen unthinkable things in their early years through abuse and neglect. Following placement, we provide post adoption support to strengthen these new family units, support parents and help the children to heal from their traumatic early experiences.
Scottish Adoption is looking to recruit a freelance fundraiser to build upon existing relationships with trusts and foundations and seek out new funding opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of fundraising, ideally from a range of sources and particularly from trusts and foundations. They will have knowledge of the fundraising landscape and good research skills. An ability to share the stories of everyone affected by adoption in a way that moves people and gets across the value of the work we do is also essential. The candidate will also have strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and able to work independently.

Scottish Adoption is seeking a new Chief Executive who will be responsible for providing leadership, developing, and implementing Scottish Adoption's strategic and operational plans, partnership and being an effective advocate for the charity and the families it serves. You will lead and work with a team of 30 permanent staff and a pool of freelance staff. They will be responsible for ensuring financial control as well as supporting and advising on service delivery and maintaining good governance across all aspects of Scottish Adoption.
To be considered for the role you must meet the following criteria:
- Recognised social work qualification and registered with (or eligible to register with) the Scottish Social Services Council.
- Evidence of continuous professional development relevant to the role.
- Experience of leading people successfully through progressive development, innovation, and projects to deliver strategic development plans.
- Recognised as a highly professional and effective partner and communicator.
- Experience and proven success in leading a teams or significant projects/programmes which include budgets, people, and stakeholders.
- In depth knowledge and experience of managing Adoption and Fostering services.
