BWell Together is the North West Edinburgh partnership who work together to;

• Improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people

• Improve the resilience of children and young people – increasing the capacity for children, young people, and their families, to resolve difficulties and problems

• Increase the capacity of parents/carers in supporting the emotional needs of their children and young people

The partnership consists of 7 agencies; Circle, Stepping Stones North Edinburgh, Granton Youth, Intercultural Youth Scotland, Pilton Youth and Children’s Project, Muirhouse Youth Development Project and Wester Hailes Youth Agency. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new vision for supporting children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing in Edinburgh.

As part of this partnership Pilton Youth and Children’s Project is recruiting one part time Youth Wellbeing Worker to support young people aged 11+ who are experiencing challenges around mental and emotional wellbeing or distress.

We offer open access clubs and groups, focussed intensive support and group work to children and young people age 5 - 18 years in an area of multiple deprivation.

Our work falls into 4 broad categories:

• Open access youth and children’s work;

• Targeted and referred support work to children and young people in need;

Volunteer Development Worker

PYCP provides a range of open access activities for children and young people aged 5 to 18 years, as well as targeted programmes including primary to secondary transition support, holiday programmes and group work. We also offer Intensive, 1:1 support to young people in need. We promote social inclusion through supporting a positive start in the lives of children and young people, focussing on personal growth and development. We create engaging, educational experiences that broaden horizons. We ensure that our services are responsive to every-changing needs and priorities.

The Volunteer Development worker will take a lead in developing PYCP’s volunteer programme and services.

The post holder will be responsible for developing an innovative and creative programme around volunteering and support which will enable local children and young people to have a diverse experience of support and opportunity through the volunteers that come to the project and share their skills and talents.

Accountability is initially to the Project Manager, but ultimately to the Project Board of Directors.

Pilton Youth and Children’s Project is a charity formed in 1997 and based in North West Edinburgh. We provide a range of services for local children and young people, including youth and children’s clubs, group work programmes and 1:1 support.

We are looking for experienced sessional workers to be part of our youth and children’s work team and work in our after school provision. We are also able to offer additional hours to cover staff absence and in holiday programmes. Candidates are welcome to apply for all or some of the hours available.

Hours available:

Tuesday – Primary 5 to 7 Club, term time from 3pm to 5.30pm (2.5 hours):

Working with a team of youth workers to develop and deliver a range of activities for children aged 8 to 11; including art and crafts, sports, games, cooking and themed/ issue based sessions.

Friday - Primaries 1/2 and Primaries 3/4 Clubs, term time from 1.30 pm – 5.00pm (3.5 hours)

Working with younger children to develop and deliver a range of activities such and art and crafts, cooking, games and sport as well as themed/ issue based sessions.

Friday Hub for S1+, term time – starting January 2022 (Times to be confirmed but no later than 9pm (approximate hours 2.5 – 3 hours):

Working with young people aged 12+ to develop and deliver a range of engaging activities, including sports, cooking, crafts and themed/ issue based sessions. Also working with a harm reduction approach with young people around risk taking behaviours and using activities to divert from/ prevent this.

Person Specification:

• At least 2 years’ experience of working with young people in youth work setting, or in a similar role such as social work, education or support work.

• Experience of working as part of a team. The post holder will be required to work alongside other youth workers and volunteers in delivering our services.

• Ability to work independently and use their own initiative.

• Understanding of the needs of young people and an ability to develop programmes to meet these needs.

• Good level of organisational, administrative, IT and communication skills.

Intensive Support Worker – Bridges to Learning

Pilton Youth and Children’s Project (PYCP) is a registered charity based in Pilton in the North West locality of Edinburgh. PYCP has been established for over 22 years and is based in an area of multiple deprivation where many children, young people and their families face inequalities in areas such as income, health and education. We work with young people aged 5 to 18 where they can access a range of activities to best suit their needs.

PYCP has provided 1:1 and group-based support to young people since we were founded in 1997. We have a small team of Intensive Support workers, taking referrals from families, schools and other local agencies.

The Intensive Support worker(s) will work with identified young people on both a 1:1 and group basis. The aim will be to support them to overcome difficulties, develop resilience and coping skills so that they can be successful in their learning and development.

The Intensive Support worker will also contribute to the development of the service, for example being a point of contact for referrals and organising programmes alongside their colleagues.
