Treasurer for Board of Trustees

Are you interested in joining SIDA’s Board of Trustees? Do you have a background in accounting? We are looking for a new Treasurer to provide key financial support and guidance to the board and staff.

The role of Treasurer is a voluntary function of one of the members of the Board of Trustees of SIDA.

The Treasurer’s role is to guide and advise the Chief Executive and the Board of Trustees in the drawing up and approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements. The Treasurer should advise the Board on the financial implications of the Alliance’s strategic plans and key assumptions included in its operational plan and annual budget.

The Treasurer should formally present the accounts at the AGM and ensure that annual accounts are duly submitted to the appropriate authorities on time and in good order.

Key Tasks

To ensure, in co-operation with the SIDA Chief Executive, that an appropriate financial policy and practice framework is in place to guide financial decision making of SIDA and ensure accountable systems for authorisation of expenditure.

To develop a clear understanding of the assumptions made in financial planning and budget proposals and advise the Board of Trustees on these matters.

To prepare for and participate in Board meetings (at least 4 annually) giving the financial report and answering questions.

To present the Treasurer’s report at the AGM. This includes a financial statement within the annual report and a presentation at the meeting.

To agree the draft budget with the SIDA Chief Executive and present it to the Board for approval or amendments.

Determine the most appropriate level of financial reserves, and hold responsibility for monitoring the level of financial reserves

To meet the finance manager as required, at least once prior to each meeting of the Board of Trustees.

To approve any expenditure above the limit set for CEO approval and to draw to the attention of the Board any untoward expenditure.

Person specifications:

Accountancy qualifications and experience

Knowledge of small charity finances and obligations

Some experience of serving on a board of Trustees desirable

Ability to explain finance in an easily accessible manner.

Evaluation and Impact officer (part-time)

Working closely across the small team at the Alliance, this post plays a key role in ensuring the Alliance is implementing its strategy principally through key data management. The postholder will lead on the Alliance’s work of using data to measure and help maximise our impact by ensuring evidence-gathering and evaluation systems are in place, supporting organisation of membership data to improve services, collecting evidence for report writing for internal and external audiences, working with other team members to harmonise processes and tools for learning and reporting on activities and outcomes, and ensuring compliant data handling by leading on data protection within the Alliance.

The jobholder will also be expected to support the delivery of Alliance activities and events, including logistical preparations and reporting; to assist with documenting, administration, reporting and evaluation for both online and in person training, learning activities and other events.

Knowledge exchange officer (part-time)

Working closely across the small team at the Alliance, this post offers an exciting opportunity to coordinate knowledge-exchange communities of practice across a network of actors on global sustainable development in Scotland, including members from public and private sectors, academia and civil society. The role will support our members to contribute effectively to global, sustainable development by developing learning opportunities, tools, and resources based on members’ needs, as well as on key developments across the sector.

The postholder will lead on the planning, delivery and evaluation of the Alliance’s programme of learning activities for members including workshops, peer learning events, mentoring, webinars and other events on key topics of interest to the sector.

About the role

Working closely with the small team at the Alliance, this post will promote the work of the Alliance through the provision of high-quality digital communication to our members, external stakeholders and the general public, and provide logistical, digital and administrative support for a range of member events including our annual conference.

The Communications and Events Coordinator will develop engaging content for use across the Alliance’s digital platforms, including the Alliance Member Hub, and be proactive in finding new ways to share messages and reach a wider audience.

The post will contribute to a variety of projects and initiatives, and a willingness to collaborate and work closely and flexibly with colleagues is essential.

Head of Policy, Communications and Digital Engagement

The Head of Policy, Communications and Digital Engagement leads the full range of the Alliance’s policy work: engaging with members and external stakeholders, recognising and acting on opportunities for influence, and leading influencing and communications with key audiences. The jobholder will also be responsible for oversight of a key move to improved digital support to enable members’ online interaction and networking.

The jobholder works with the Chief Executive on policy development, political engagement and organisational strategy development;

They also share with the Chief Executive the role of representing the organisation in the public domain - to the media and in key forums and networks - with a particular focus on driving progress on the UN SDGs, building cross-sectoral partnerships and collaborations, and enhancing policy coherence for sustainable development, including in the context of the climate crisis and delivering a wellbeing economy.

About the role

Working closely with the small team at the Alliance, this new post will support the development and coordination of civil society driven humanitarian action out of Scotland. A key aim is to raise public awareness of, and engagement with, the most effective ways to support international humanitarian causes.

Through direct outreach activities, with NGOs, diaspora and grassroots community groups in particular, the Scottish Government and public authorities such as NHS Scotland (including NHS NSS Procurement), and the private sector, the role will facilitate joined up thinking, communications and action and promote Scotland’s collective global citizenship.

The Humanitarian Action, Diaspora, & Global Citizenship Engagement Officer will support and develop new communities of interest and practice in response to humanitarian crises across the world, with a focus on legacy work to build lasting connections.

Using and developing the Alliance’s digital platforms, the post will also support participation, outreach and communications activities to enhance global citizenship in Scotland.

The post holder will be required to contribute to a variety of projects and initiatives, and a willingness to collaborate and work closely with colleagues is essential.

We are seeking a strategic minded, value-driven, committed individual to further develop the Alliance’s strategy and ensure the vibrant Scottish movement of people, who care about creating a fairer world, are represented and supported in their work.

The new Chief Executive will lead a dedicated team who hold responsibility for the operational management of the organisation. Along with leading the strategy, the Chief Executive will ensure strong member engagement and consultation, represent the collective voice of members to key decision makers, and ensure that learning and support services are provided to meet the needs of the network. The post-holder will have experience in financial management and lead the organisation in ensuring a strong safeguarding culture.
