About the role

Our Financial Wellbeing Team works towards the strategic aim of improving financial health and wellbeing.

We do this by delivering evidence-based money guidance to a number of audiences, including schools, colleges, communities and workplaces.

We also deliver financial capability training to professionals, administer our e-learning modules and create a wide range of digital resources so that people can access financial information in a format that is most suited to their needs.

Job description and key responsibilities

  • Support the financial education of young people by creating resources and delivering workshops to schools, colleges, universities and community groups, both online and in person.
  • Create and deliver financial wellbeing sessions to the wider population including employees across Scotland.
  • Develop and deliver open access online workshops on various personal finance related topics.
  • Design and develop financial wellbeing resources using a variety of formats.
  • Deliver financial capability training to professionals.
  • Help to create a resource bank on our website.
  • Work with the Financial Wellbeing Lead to plan activities in line with our strategic aim.
  • Support the Financial Wellbeing team in developing and delivering a money guidance programme for adults with low numeracy skills in the Scottish Borders.
  • Other relevant tasks as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience of developing and delivering training and/or education
  • Experience of supporting, building and strengthening relationships with partner organisations

Desirable

  • Experience of financial inclusion and debt prevention
  • Community engagement experience

Knowledge and understanding

  • Ability to create high-quality, engaging content in a variety of formats
  • Interest in financial wellbeing topics
  • Willingness to learn about new subjects
  • Ability and passion to work directly with people to create content and present complex information in a way that best fits their needs

Treasurer

Overview

The treasurer is an officer of the trustee board and not a paid worker. The role of the treasurer is to ensure that all the finances and the supporting financial control systems are kept in order. The treasurer is not the book-keeper. They do not hold or maintain the financial records, nor will they have sole control of the organisations bank accounts, cheque books or electronic payment systems.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Chair the finance and business committee meetings.

• Guiding and advising the business and finance committee in the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements, within a relevant financial policy framework

• Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

• Advising on the financial implications of organisations strategic plan.

• Understanding the accounting procedures and key internal controls to be able to assure the business and finance committee and the Board that the charity's financial integrity is sound

• Monitoring the organisations income and expenditure position, and presenting reports regularly to the board in a format accessible to the board members

• Ensuring that money received is only spent on the purposes for which it was given, and, where required, ensuring that reports and accounts demonstrating this outcome are submitted to funders

• Ensuring that accounts are prepared at year-end in compliance with the current SORP Accounting for Charities and working with the CEO to ensure they are audited or independently examined, as required by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator

• Presenting the accounts at the AGM and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and understandable way

• Liaising with the CEO about financial matters

Role profile

The Training Lead is a new exciting post, and is an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) within Money Advice Scotland. The main purpose of this role is to create a new programme of money advice training as well as to manage, lead and inspire the Money Advice Scotland training team in our goal to raise the quality and standards of money (debt) advice in Scotland by delivering engaging, informative, and quality training.

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Key responsibilities

  1. Create a new, up to date programme of debt advice training and also review existing training materials produced by third parties to determine appropriateness and relevance
  2. Liaise with our customers and internal departments to gain an understanding of training needs; assess training to develop and produce innovative training solutions that include web-based seminars, printed manuals, group sessions, training videos, and more
  3. Lead, inspire and develop the Money Advice Scotland Consultants team to empower and enable them to do their jobs to the best of their ability
  4. Present in-person and online training sessions and higher qualified personnel as and when the need arises.
  5. Monitor training programmes and manuals to ensure that they are effective and up to date and make updates as necessary
  6. Work with managers to address any learning issues, instruction problems, or new educational needs
  7. Maintain understanding of new educational and training techniques and methods
  8. Manage budgets
  9. Monitor and evaluate training programme’s effectiveness
  10. Other relevant tasks as required

Essential Skills

  1. Strong knowledge of Scottish debt/money advice in order to create appropriate training
  2. Exceptional communication and leadership skills that allow you to manage, lead and inspire your team
  3. Ability to think strategically
  4. Proficient in using Microsoft Office products, Adobe Connect, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
  5. Ability to build relationships and fully engage with various management teams
  6. Track record in designing and executing informative, engaging and successful training programmes
  7. Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations etc.)
  8. Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively

Digital Adviser

Responsible to: Digital Transformation Lead

Salary:£23,500 per annum rising to £25,000 after successful completion of probationary period (pro rata for part-time), plus 6% employer pension contribution. This is a fixed term contract to 31 March 2022

Hours:Full-time role available, or two part-time roles (specific number of hours may be negotiable). Working hours are Monday to Thursday, between 8.30 – 6pm, and 8.30 – 3.30pm on Friday.

The digital project aims to effectively support and prepare clients for accessing and receiving money advice. Often clients are at a point of financial and emotional crisis, so the role of a digital adviser is a sensitive, empathic yet empowering one. Using information and signposting, our digital advisers provide clients with the reassurance, tools and confidence needed to start addressing their money and debt worries.

  • Conduct chats via digital channels including webchat, email, and social media
  • Assess client circumstances and refer to the appropriate sources of help
  • Answer any initial emergency questions
  • Ask and record key data capture questions relating to client circumstances
