Midlothian Sure Start has been in existence since 2001 and employs over 70 members of staff providing a service in Family Learning centres and in the community. Our ethos is to provide a holistic, confidential community based service where families are at the heart of what we do.

Midlothian Sure Start is looking for qualified and experienced Mindfulness practitioner preferably with a minimum of 2 years’ experience, to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced therapist to use their skills to support a project aimed at delivering mindfulness groups at local primary schools.

The project will offer 4 Mindfulness programmes over the year comprised of 16 one-hour sessions for 7-11 year olds in local primaries. Each group will comprise 6-8 students with support from the Principle Education Psychologist at Midlothian Council to identify the school and pupils most likely to gain benefit.

Each lesson will contain videos, games, kinaesthetic activities (mindful sitting, lying and movement practices) as well as compassionate enquiry. The programme comprised themes which build on each other sequentially.

The first 6 lessons focus on developing the foundations of Mindfulness: embodying present moment awareness. After this, the children explore how mindfulness can help them be happier by being present for the good things in life and also helps them to be more resilient and cope with stress and difficulty, in particular difficult thoughts and emotions. It then focused on the cultivation of kindness, first to ourselves and then towards others. Finally, the children will explore questions of purpose and agency.
