This is an exciting opportunity to join our small but diverse team of 12 workers who are committed to promoting the welfare and advancing the education of people affected by mental health issues across Lanarkshire. Our core work is to support engagement and participation of mental health service users and carers in the planning and delivery of mental health and social care services.

• Our team includes the Stigma Free Lanarkshire Project, and we work closely supporting and encouraging local action towards recovery and reducing stigma and discrimination of mental ill-health.

• Four peer workers who work within the Acute Adult MH Inpatient Wards in University Hospitals Wishaw and Hairmyres.

• A Development Officer to engage with young adults in South Lanarkshire.

Qualifications: A relevant qualification or significant work experience in the successful development and delivery of projects and programmes.

Reporting to:Operational – Lanarkshire Links Manager - Lanarkshire Links Trustees

Lanarkshire Links is funded across NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Council with our focus being to support mental health service users and carers to be involved in the process of planning and provision of services.

This post is funded for two years with an option to extend to three years at the discretion of the funder. It is a new post to support the setting up a network with partnership agencies in North Lanarkshire, to support our core work and engage with ‘hard to reach’ groups within communities.

You will be line managed by Lanarkshire Links Development Manager and supervision will be available to you in your workplace. You will be part of the multidisciplinary team within the ward who will also be available for day-to-day support.

Lanarkshire Links has a long history of promoting Recovery and tackling the stigma that surrounds mental health and employ the Stigma Free Lanarkshire Project Team.

Peers are people who have a shared experience of mental health problems and recovery.

Peers can use this lived experience to help other people who are facing similar challenges.

Peers also use their expertise to inform the development of new policies and improve services by using their own lived experience to help design and deliver services. You will have the opportunity with the rest of the team to attend our quarterly members meetings where we support service users and their carers (our member) to engage with the statutory and voluntary sector service providers.

Applicants will use their lived experience and skills to work alongside the patient in the ward to enhance recovery throughout their hospital stay and on into the community.

When you commence employment, you will be provided with an orientation programme including the opportunity to work alongside one of the peer worker team.

You will have the opportunity to join monthly meetings with the full staff team.

You will take responsibility to complete training required for your role.

You will have (or work to gain) a knowledge of the Scottish Recovery Network Values Framework for Peer Working.

• Safely use your own personal experience to support someone’s recovery, offering hope and demonstrating a positive outcome.
• Capture the patient’s experience of care as part of their journey of recovery from the patient’s perspective.
• Contribute to discussions that will lead to self-improvement.
• Build a therapeutic relationship with the patients.
• Ensure a good working relationship with staff and partner agencies, promoting positive mental health, well-being, and recovery in your working environment
• Provide 1:1 engagement and therapeutic recovery groups within the ward
• Provide information and support in preparation for the patient returning home
• Safely share you own recovery story
• Act as a recovery champion within the team
