A little bit about North Edinburgh Response and Recovery Group (R2)
Collaboration is at the heart of our work with the North Edinburgh Response and Recovery Group (R2).
R2 is a collective of over 30 organisations (including elected members and public sector stakeholders) working innovatively on collaborations in North Edinburgh, to make sure we can respond to the ever-increasing needs in our local community. As a group we meet regularly and have developed a framework to enable us to share opportunities, funding, and creative ideas to make it easier for people in North Edinburgh to get what they need in a speedy and timely manner.
R2 has established Development Group who meet regularly to assess needs and trends of the local community and develop partnership solutions to meet those needs. This includes operational partnerships, as well as developing strategic partnerships with the public sector. It also includes joint funding applications and sharing of resources.
A little bit about the role
You will be employed by Fresh Start throughout the three years but will be accountable to the R2 Development Group who will direct your workload depending on the needs / trends coming from the ground up. In the first year you will be hosted by Fresh Start, then at Community Renewal and then LIFT (but still employed by Fresh Start). However, it will be expected that you will get a deep understanding of all the organisations and be based in some of them throughout your time.
You will co-ordinate, support, and facilitate the delivery of all aspects of the R2 network.

You will have a good understanding of the challenges for North Edinburgh, the people who live here, and the local organisations set up to support the community, as well as understanding of the strategic drivers. We need someone with great networking and partnership skills who can navigate complexity.

Fresh Start provides support to people moving on from or those at risk of homelessness. Fresh Start has been active in Edinburgh for over 20 years with a mission to help people make a home for themselves. Volunteering is at the centre of Fresh Start’s ethos, and we are looking to diversify our team of volunteers to ensure all ages, backgrounds and demographics are represented and given opportunities at Fresh Start.
The Hit Squad painting and decorating team coordinate the service and ensure that it is delivered to a high standard, working with service users in their homes, with the support of volunteers and corporate supporters.
The successful candidate is expected to undertake the decorating of the service users’ homes alongside volunteers, although specific painting and decorating experience is not required.

The role of Admin & Finance Assistant is to provide support to the administrative function of Fresh Start, ensuring that everything behind the scenes is running smoothly.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated candidate, with excellent organisational and communication skills. Dealing with a broad range of volunteers, supporters and service users, alongside the numerous services Fresh Start offers, attention to detail is key.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract, with ideally, a start date of mid to late June.
We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to help source and secure small grants from trusts, foundations, and statutory sources.
Fresh Start raises funds from a variety of sources including grants from statutory funders and trusts and foundations. The post holder will work within the fundraising team to support with researching available trusts and grants and contribute towards writing applications, bids and reports for a diverse range of audiences including existing and new grant funders. The post holder will be an integral part of the fundraising team, working closely alongside the Fundraising Manager and the Corporate Community Fundraiser.
Fresh Start is looking to recruit a part time Volunteer Coordinator (22.5 hours per week).
Fresh Start have a variety of different services (starter packs, painting and decorating, cooking, growing, community pantry and shop etc) that use volunteers to work alongside the people who use those services. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting and training all volunteers into Fresh Start, and placing them in the relevant service.
The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of volunteer engagement, in line with ‘Investing in Volunteers’ processes, recruitment, training and initial support of all volunteers within our services. This includes actively recruiting volunteers and supporting those who use our services to access volunteering opportunities.
We are looking for four new Development Support Workers to create a new and innovative team to lead on an exciting consortium project with partners Fresh Start (FS), North Edinburgh Arts (NEA), Move On (MO), and Spartans Community Football Academy (SCFA). We are developing a new North Edinburgh Support Service (NESSie) to reach those most at risk of the long-term negative outcomes of poverty and disadvantage. The work will be led by a cross organisational team employed by and based within FS, NEA, MO, and SCFA. Each consortium member will host a worker but the team of four will work as a team to deliver the vision of NESSie.
The successful post holders will work collaboratively to realise the vision of the North Edinburgh Support Service (NESSie) to generate referrals from a number of sources, ensuring that a person centred approach is taken to meet the needs of those most in need. Fresh Start support people to move on from homelessness, and act to prevent homelessness, through the provision of practical goods and services.

The successful candidate would be required to oversee the running of these well-established services and manage the targets and expectations of the service and service users.
There is also a requirement to build relationships with many supporters who donate goods to Fresh Start, including churches, community groups, corporate supporters and individual givers.
This is a wide and varied role, including staff and volunteer management, that requires someone that will actively participate and will not be based at a desk all day, but instead, will have the opportunity to interact with our volunteers, staff and service users to deliver a much sought after service.
A keen interest in waste reduction and circular economy models would be of great benefit to the role.

We offer practical help and support through the provision of goods and services. These services have developed over the years to recognise and meet the needs of those who have experienced homelessness and to support homelessness prevention.
We are looking for a self-motivated, experienced, and talented fundraiser to help secure and sustain significant grants from trusts, foundations, and statutory sources.

Our Services are offered at the stage when clients have been offered a tenancy, with the services being delivered by volunteers who provide clients with practical and social benefits.
Fresh Start have worked with people moving on from homelessness for over 20 years and are developing our services to offer support to those at risk of homelessness with the opening of our new community hub in North Edinburgh. The renovated space includes a charity shop and a community pantry, meeting/training spaces for local people and organisations to use and a community kitchen housing our cooking classes.
The community pantry – ‘Fresh Start Pantry’, part of ‘Your Local Pantry’ franchise provides 250 memberships to the local community of North Edinburgh with the aim of providing food with dignity. Fresh Start Shop provides low-cost homewares to customers Edinburgh wide as well as the local community, in keeping with Fresh Start’s mission, ‘helping people make a home for themselves’. The community hub will offer, in partnership with other organisations, advice and information and other support services to those at risk of homelessness
The Volunteer Coordinator will work alongside a team of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the community hub.
The role is part-time, working 22 hours per week, with the requirement to work Monday, Tuesday and Friday, however, there will be flexibility around the remainder of the hours.

The Corporate Community Fundraiser will help Fresh Start develop partnerships with corporate supporters, community groups and maximise income opportunities through a variety of different mediums. The CCF will develop robust, long term relationships with partners and assist them to identify maximum use of their corporate social responsibility to create an environment that offers added value to all of Fresh Start’s services and developments.
