Care and Repair Edinburgh (CRE) is an independent charity who have been serving Edinburgh’s older and disabled community since 1985 and regularly complete over 6,000 jobs every year in homes across the city.

CRE offer a range of practical services to help older and disabled people repair, improve or adapt their property so that they may remain independent at home for as long as possible.

The Charity is a financially stable and viable organisation and has gone from strength to strength particularly over the past 5 years.

We are now looking to recruit a new Chair and additional Trustees with an range of skills and experience to support the direction of the organisation. Candidates skilled in Third Sector Leadership, Business Management, Finance, Marketing and Social Media, Charity Law, Social Care or Reablement would be of particular interest.

CRE welcome candidates who do not have Board experience as full induction and training will be provided.

As a Trustee, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, control and accountability of the Charity ensuring that its activities are in the interests of its beneficiaries. Trustees are also responsible for confirming the organisation complies with its governance, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

The board meets quarterly in Edinburgh (February, May, August and November), either face-to-face, via video chat, or as a hybrid of the two plus an additional AGM. Aside from the quarterly board meetings, additional time consideration is required to allow for reading of relevant papers, follow up on any action points, and attending occasional additional meetings, events, or strategy days. The average total time commitment is approximately 1-2 days per month for Trustees and 2-3 days per month for the Chair.

As a voluntary position, Trustees are not paid but travel and other expenses for attendance at meetings are reimbursed in line with CRE policy. As a local, inclusive charity we are keen this diversity continues to be reflected in our Board.

Our services include minor and major home adaptations to improve accessibility, comfort and energy efficiency as well as a handyperson service that uses volunteers to complete DIY services and help with technology in the home.

Care and Repair Edinburgh is part of Age Scotland, the national charity for older people.

Care and Repair Edinburgh (CRE) are looking to extend our services to include a reliable electrician on a part time basis. We aim to deliver the highest quality for our clients, so you will be required to show enthusiasm for standards and best practice, demonstrate patience and empathy with older people and understand the impact of loneliness and isolation.

As this is a new service CRE will be offering same on a part time basis. We expect the type of work will be additional electrical sockets, new light fittings, installation of outside security lights, small electrical repairs – jobs that only require one person and can be done within one day. This will be reviewed once the service has grown, and we can ascertain more fully what type of work our clients require. We also currently offer supply an installation of interlinked fire alarms and this task would move to the electrical service to allow our joiner and engineers to resume their core duties.

The post will be a hybrid blend of office based (in Edinburgh) and home-based work. At least 40% of the working week will be based at our office in Causewayside, Edinburgh.

Care and Repair Edinburgh is an independent charity and is part of the Age Scotland family. We are part of the Age Scotland Independent Living services designed to help people live independently for as long as possible and are able.

We offer a range of practical services to help people repair, improve or adapt their homes so that they may remain in their own homes in comfort and independence for as long as possible.

Care & Repair Edinburgh have been serving Edinburgh’s older and disabled residents since 1985 and complete over 5,000 jobs every year in homes across the city.

The success of the service has seen the Charity go from strength to strength and is a financially stable and viable organisation.

We are now looking to recruit new Trustees with a particular range of skills and experience to support the direction of the organisation. Candidates skilled in the areas of Third Sector leadership, Diversity Championing, Social Care or Hospital Discharge would be of particular interest.

We also welcome candidates who do not have board room experience. Full induction and training will be provided.

As a Trustee Board Member, you will be responsible for the strategic direction, control and accountability of the Charity ensuring that its activities are in the interests of its beneficiaries and to ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

A time commitment of around 1 day per month is required. The Board currently meets 4 times a year (February, May, August and November) in Edinburgh.

These posts are not remunerated but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
