Communications Officer

Our members form the largest network of befriending services in the world.

We provide access to sector-specific training, events, resources, and awards which support quality in befriending. Each year we coordinate Befriending Week from the 1st-7th November.

At Befriending Networks we have an exciting opportunity for a talented and dynamic Communications Officer to join our team. You will be experienced and motivated, making a key contribution to our staff team and network of befriending services.

We have been working hard over the past 12 months as an organisation, we have re-branded, are about to launch a new website this summer, and have published our Strategic Plan for the next five years.

We are seeking someone who is up for the challenge of creating and delivering our strategic communications priorities. The role will be a mix of content design and creation for social media, website, and newsletters; supporting campaigns; and taking the lead for our annual celebrations during Befriending Week.

You will be a skilled project planner, a team player, a problem solver, and someone who takes pride in producing high-quality accessible work. You will push us into new spaces including the introduction of blogs and podcasts and advancing our use of social media. You will have familiarity with interpreting analytics and audience engagement data.

Befriending Networks needs you. We are looking for our next Treasurer. You will work closely with our brilliant board of trustees and form an effective relationship with our CEO to provide support, guidance, and direction on the financial governance of our charity.

As a membership organisation, our charity provides a high standard of information, training, events, and consultancy in relation to befriending. Our activities support the delivery of quality befriending services across the UK. We raise the profile and understanding of befriending among politicians, commissioners, funders, and the public. Working collectively, we have a vision of a society that values befriending, recognises its importance, and provides befriending support to everyone who needs it.

In the voluntary role of Treasurer, we are seeking an individual with financial experience and great ideas who can work with us to achieve our vision. You will be able to commit regularly to the work of the organisation through email and online meetings. In 2024 we will publish our next strategic plan and we will work for the remainder of this year to develop our future direction. We have exciting projects ahead such as reviewing our quality awards programme, maximising our enterprise activities, growing membership size, and increasing our membership services.

This is a remote volunteering role; you can be based anywhere in the UK.

Are you proactive and customer-focused with a ‘can-do’ mindset? We are looking to appoint a Membership Services Assistant to support the delivery of our membership services. The successful candidate will be a team player willing to get stuck in, learn and develop.

Befriending Networks is a growing network of over 370 members delivering befriending services across the UK. You’ll be joining an organisation that values its people and offers a supportive work environment in which you can grow and thrive.

You will be working with our Membership Officers to:

• Maintain an accurate record of our members using our website and Salesforce CRM.

• Respond to member needs in relation to user access, joining and renewal processes, or change of users.

• Contribute to the smooth running of membership events and thematic campaigns.

This is a fixed-term post of 21 hours per week, which can be worked flexibly over 4 or 5 days but must include Wednesdays.

Befriending Networks is the growing network of organisations for the befriending sector with over 370 members across the UK. We are looking for an experienced Communications Officer to join our team.

We need someone proactive, flexible, creative, and who has a ‘can do’ mindset. You will be a team player, willing to get stuck in, and in return you will be joining an organisation which values its people and offers a supportive working environment.

The Communications Officer is responsible for leading on a range of communications functions supporting the work of Befriending Networks.

Focus areas for this post are:

  • Developing and delivery of all aspects of our Communications Strategy
  • Production of engaging and accurate digital content for our sector, building an online community to be achieved using social media, newsletters, and our website.
  • Coordination of National Befriending Week - a UK wide campaign which raises the profile and understanding of befriending.
  • Project managing digital and communications upgrades, which will include replacing our website and the development of brand guidance.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about social change and creating impact in communities. You should believe in the power of befriending and the importance of social connection. Delivering our work contributes to the reduction in inequalities, advancing positive outcomes for individuals and community, and increased connection and confidence. Befriending Networks is a charity with a vision of a society that values befriending, recognises its importance and provides befriending support to everyone who needs it.

We are an intermediary that connects and supports 390 befriending services and projects across the UK and are the country’s leading resource on befriending. In the last few years our profile and membership has grown significantly.

We are seeking a high calibre individual to lead our team. As the new Chief Executive the successful individual will shape and deliver on our strategic plan, own and manage our fundraising and income generation process, as well as ensuring the maintenance of good charity governance and compliance.

To be successful in the post, you will demonstrate an outstanding track record in leadership roles in the third sector, have a keen understanding and track record of successful fundraising, be able to deliver operational excellence on all fronts, and have a passion for befriending.

*We have an office base in Edinburgh and dependent upon your location and preferences the following options are available; office based Edinburgh, hybrid working between the home and office or homebased if you live outside reasonable travel to Edinburgh. The post holder will work alongside other membership officers based around the UK and the wider national team based in Scotland. You would deliver services to our Scottish Members including; providing information and support, responding to enquiries, provision of resources, facilitating learning and networking events, promoting and delivering Befriending Networks wider services.

In the last few years our membership and turn over has increased due to growth in England, supporting English Befriending services. We are delighted that we are now able to expand our core support team and create a dedicated Finance and Administration Officer role. We are looking for an experienced finance officer to join the team on a permanent basis. As our Finance and Administration Officer you would be responsible for delivering all our finance functions and providing a small amount of administrative support to the team.
