Who are we?

The Hearing Voices Network Dundee is a SCIO which provides a HaVeN for those who hear voices, as well as those in the community who have mental health challenges. The HaVen is a drop-in centre as well as a community café which is based in the Hilltown offering a variety of groups which are run and supported by volunteers.

What we do

The Hearing Voices Network Dundee seeks to inspire hope for Voice-Hearers, their friends & families. We have a drop-in service which is open to all. We offer 1:1 support, advice, volunteering opportunities, befriending, peer2peer, training, group work and have a community café on site. We work closely with other organisations in our community to ensure that we remain up to date and are able provide creative support solutions to our members and the community around us.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Finance Officer to join our team at Hearing Voices Network Dundee. The Finance Officer will play a key role in maintaining the charity’s financial systems, ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting the preparation of management accounts, and contributing to the smooth running of financial operations.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a solid finance background who is looking to use their skills in a meaningful, community-focused role within the third sector.

This is a part time role, 20 hours per week

Requirements:

Ideally, the successful candidate will have:

Essential:

  • Relevant financial qualifications.
  • Proven experience in a financial role.
  • Experience of bookkeeping and financial reporting in a charity or small organisation.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of charity finance principles, including restricted funds.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple projects.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the Scottish charity or third sector.
  • Knowledge of OSCR reporting requirements.
  • Familiarity with payroll and pension administration.
  • Interest in and commitment to the values and mission of Hearing Voice Network Dundee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate financial records using (e.g., Xero, Sage) accounting software.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, balance sheets, and cashflow forecasts for the Operations Manager and Board.
  • Support budget preparation and monitoring across projects and funding streams.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, income, and expenditure records.
  • Process invoices, payments, and staff/volunteer expense claims.
  • Support the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors or independent examiners.
  • Ensure compliance with OSCR, HMRC, and charity financial regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records for restricted/unrestricted funds and grant reporting.
  • Assist with VAT, Gift Aid, and payroll reporting where applicable.
  • Provide financial information for funding applications and grant reports.
  • Work with Operations Manager to monitor budgets and ensure effective use of funds.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of financial systems and controls.
  • Ensure finance policies and procedures are up to date.
