This is a new post created as a result of digital developments within VOCAL and is an exciting opportunity to drive change across the organisation. The postholder will report to the Head of Digital and Communications and liaise closely with internal and external partners to ensure projects are delivered successfully and on time.

The selected candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the key principles of effective project management, including project governance, and have significant experience of planning, developing and implementing successful projects, as well as success in:

Due to the impending retirement of its present CEO, VOCAL - Voice of Carers Across Lothian - is seeking a replacement to lead its busy Edinburgh and Midlothian teams providing support to carers.

VOCAL is a carer-led organisation employing 60 staff, supported by a team of approximately 50 volunteers. VOCAL is based at the Edinburgh Carers’ Hub, the Midlothian Carer Centre and co-located at several health and social care settings across Edinburgh and Midlothian.

VOCAL supports over 10,000 carers annually through a wide range of services, utilising different platforms and media. It works with partners across all sectors to offer services to carers, who are often caring for someone with a life limiting condition.

The Charity’s current income is circa £3,500,000 through a range of contracts with the Edinburgh and Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnerships, funding streams from the Scottish Government, trust funds and foundations as well as a wide range of fund-raising initiatives. VOCAL’s major contracts are up to five years in length.

Purpose of the Post

The CEO provides leadership to ensure a focus on VOCAL’s vision and strategy, to encourage, motivate, support and inspire staff and volunteers. VOCAL's COSCA recognised Counselling Service provides counselling to adult carers (18 and older) who provide unpaid care to a family member, partner, relative or friend who requires help to manage a long term illness, disability, physical or mental health problem or drug/alcohol addiction in Edinburgh and/or Midlothian.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced counsellor to provide counselling sessions face to face and digitally, in line with existing counselling service models and as stated in the Service’s Code of Practice for Counsellors.

The appointed counsellor will hold a postgraduate diploma in Counselling from a recognised educational establishment and ideally have 250 post-qualifying hours (minimum 150); and be registered with a professional body, i.e. COSCA, BACP, UKCP or equivalent. The postholder will carry a caseload and provide support to help carers identify and prepare for short breaks e.g. brokering transport, replacement care or resources such as equipment.
