Advocacy and Campaigns Project Manager

The Advocacy and Campaigns Project Manager will lead the development and implementation of Positive Action in Housing’s campaign strategy. The post holder will work with Positive Action in Housing staff, volunteers, and clients to identify issues facing our beneficiaries and formulate effective campaigns to challenge the root cause of these problems at both the national and regional levels.

Working with the Director, the Project Manager will play a critical role in developing the distinctive voice of our lobbying and campaigns – ensuring strong synergies between them. The postholder will work with other partner organisations to give sustained and consistent attention to policy developments, beginning with the Nationality and Borders Bill, and to formulate evidence-based responses. Key to this role will be lobbying MP’s and local authorities and build connections with other organisations with similar aims. Current issues include the excessive length of time taken for asylum claims to be processed; unsuitable accommodation and support by the Home Office; lock change evictions; ineligibility for asylum seekers to enter formal paid work; differential treatment of refugees; asylum seekers having no recourse to public funds; inhumane detention in prisonlike accommodation centres; and the deportation of refugees to Rwanda.

The postholder will be responsible for developing an engaging and captivating social media strategy. The postholder will line manage the Advocacy and Campaigns Project Officer.

You will assist with the general book-keeping of a small, but busy charity based in our offices in the centre of Glasgow. You will have previous experience of giving advice in relation to social security benefits and assisting with claims to benefits. We are looking for a Digital Skills Officer with proven organisational abilities to work on our Digital Skills and Connectivity Project which aims to connect our digitally excluded beneficiaries to the internet and provide them with the necessary training to benefit from the range of essential services the internet offers.

Working closely with the communities we serve; you will strategically assess how we can best improve the digital literacy of our most vulnerable clients. You will look for fundraising opportunities to provide our clients with devices such as laptops and tablets. You will organise the purchasing and distribution of devices and internet connections. Key to this will be strategically selecting which beneficiaries are in greatest need. Through a combination of small workshops and 1-1 sessions, you will help digitally excluded beneficiaries develop the key skills necessary to benefit from being connected to the internet. You will ensure clients are able to use the internet to know their rights and leverage their existing skills. Developing an understanding of each client’s needs, you will aid them face to face, over the phone, or via digital channels using sensitive listening and questioning skills. You will maintain accurate records of both device distribution and client interaction on case management systems and record outcomes on each case.

We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator with a track record of exemplary organisational skills to join our team. You will coordinate the work our volunteers do across our various projects ensuring they best support project officers. Working with project officers, you will assess organisation and programme needs to determine the number and range of volunteers needed for a specific project. You will be a regular point of contact for our volunteers and ensure we make optimal use of their skillsets. You will administer our ‘Humans’ volunteer network. In crisis situations such as clients being housed in inappropriate accommodation or lacking basic essentials such as food or clothing you will use the Humans of Glasgow Network to coordinate a quick and effective response. You will set up similar ‘Humans of..’ groups in other cities in which we have a presence. You will manage volunteer recruitment. Where required you will interview prospective volunteers ensuring the most appropriate candidate is selected for a given role. Housing and Homelessness Caseworker

You will provide homelessness advice, information and representation for people from BME, refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds to reduce the risk of homelessness, eviction or destitution. Working within a small, dedicated team, you will help our service users develop and track their Personal Housing Plans in order to find safe, affordable housing. You will liaise with Registered Social Landlords to maximise housing opportunities for our clients. You will help newly settled refugees develop Personal Resettlement Plans. You will assist those with Limited Leave to Remain to avoid falling into rent arrears or losing employment related to their immigration status. You will take up housing complaints and assist asylum seekers to access essential crisis support to avoid destitution.
