Borders Wheels is a new voluntary organisation providing transport service for people who are isolated or have mobility difficulties in the Scottish Borders. It is being formed as a result of merging community transport services in different parts of the Scottish Borders.
We are seeking a first Chief Executive to provide leadership in establishing the new organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a real impact in improving the mobility of older, disabled and other people who have limited transport options in the Scottish Borders. You must have experience of managing staff and budgets. Experience of managing community transport services would be an advantage but is not essential.
Organisation profile:
Borders Wheels is a new organisation which will provide community transport services across the Scottish Borders. It is being formed from the merger of community transport services previously managed by the Bridge (Scottish Borders Community Development Company) and BAVS (Berwickshire Association for Voluntary Service). We aim to develop a new organisational strategy to take the organisation forward, to maintain and improve our current services, but also to develop new and innovative ways to meet the mobility needs of our users and potential users. The Bridge (soon to be reformed as Borders Wheels) is a Company Limited by Guarantee No 305830. Scottish Charity No SC037646.
The Bridge is a membership-based community development organisation and a partner in the Borders Third Sector Interface (TSI). We support Borders communities and Third Sector organisations by providing capacity building support and practical help on a range of issues; we also represent the interests of the Third Sector within the community planning partnership and provide information/communication links between partners in both the statutory and Third Sector. We operate from premises in Galashiels, Jedburgh, and Peebles to cover the Scottish Borders, in association with our partners in the TSI.
The role of the Community Development Worker (CDW) is to deliver a capacity-building development support service to new and existing Third Sector organisations.
The AM leads the staff of the Area Office. He or she is personally accountable to the Executive Officer (EO) for implementation of SBCDC policies and achievement of its strategic objectives and targets in the local area. While the post-holder is based in the Jedburgh office and will work mainly in Cheviot and Teviot & Liddesdale, under the direction of the EO she or he may be required from time to time to undertake work in other areas of the Borders within which SBCDC operates.
The Bridge is a membership based community development organisation and is also a partner in the Borders Third Sector Interface. We are at the heart of the community, providing capacity building support and practical help to a wide range of voluntary and community organisations in the area.
The role of the Development Worker is to deliver a capacity building development support service to new and existing Third Sector organisations. An understanding of the Third Sector and the environment in which it operates are the main skills we are seeking for this post, combined with experience of relevant local voluntary and/or community activities.
