Home-Start Edinburgh

Charity registered in Scotland SC004387

Home-Start Edinburgh has been offering support to families in the area since 1986…because childhood can’t wait. Being a parent, whatever your age, background or other circumstances, isn’t always easy. This, coupled with other pressures in life such as illness, stress or financial worries, can make parenting even more difficult and overwhelming. Home-Start volunteers visit families once a week for a couple of hours in their own homes, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope. Home-Start Edinburgh works with families in need of support who have at least one child under the age of five.

At Home-Start Edinburgh, we believe in the power of early intervention and the life-changing potential of strong, nurturing relationships. We're here for families with young children in Edinburgh facing challenging circumstances—whether it’s isolation, mental health struggles, or financial insecurity. Our skilled volunteers work alongside these families, empowering them to thrive. Now, we’re looking for a Business Support Manager to join our dedicated team and help us continue delivering this vital mission.

About the Role

As Business Support Manager, you'll be at the heart of our operations, providing expert oversight across our administrative, HR, finance and compliance functions. Your work will underpin the successful delivery of our services and ensure the charity runs efficiently and sustainably.

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact behind the scenes of a frontline organisation that helps build stronger families and a fairer Edinburgh. We're looking for someone who shares our commitment to equity, integrity and purposeful work.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day business functions, including office administration, HR processes, finance coordination and reporting.
  • Support the CEO and senior leadership team with strategic planning, board reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and improve systems and processes that ensure we operate efficiently and transparently.
  • Be the point of contact for key partners and stakeholders relating to governance, contracts and procurement.
  • Ensure the organisation continues to meet its legal, financial and quality assurance obligations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enable clear, consistent internal communication and staff support.

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Proven experience in a business support, office or charity management role.
  • Strong organisational or project management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Confidence using digital systems, managing budgets and handling HR or compliance tasks.
  • A collaborative and flexible mindset—you’ll be working closely with a small, passionate team.
  • Alignment with our values: you are purpose-driven, clear in your communication, and confident in delivering high-quality work that supports better outcomes for children and families.

Why Join Home-Start Edinburgh?

At Home-Start Edinburgh, we are:

  • Supportive – We build relationships rooted in trust and understanding.
  • Positive – We see potential in every family and in every colleague.
  • Professional – We deliver our work with integrity, focus, and expertise.

You’ll be part of a small, mission-driven team with the opportunity to shape processes and make a meaningful contribution. We’re proud of the impact we make together—and we want someone who shares our belief that childhood can’t wait.
