About the role
We have an exciting vacancy for an Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive and Nurse Director. We are looking for a highly skilled administrator who will provide high quality, professional executive support, and governance support to the CEND, Chair and Board of Trustees. You will be involved in a wide range of activities from complex diary management, secretariat support to the Board, through to supporting projects and co-ordinating large scale inspiring events. This is a strategic role which requires significant diplomacy as first point for contact for a range of stakeholders.
Being a small team, we also need someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves up and pitching in with whatever is required.
The post is full-time (37.5 hours), based mainly in our office in central Edinburgh, with scope for some flexible working from home. We are offering a salary of £33,901 - £35,119 depending on experience.
About you
Having worked in a PA/EA role with a chief executive or senior manager before, you will be able to balance the demands of strict deadlines with a very high level of attention to detail. You will have substantial administrative experience including being able to demonstrate highly proficient IT skills and an ability to cope with prioritising and interruptions. You will have demonstrable experience of supporting committees, preferably at Board level, and be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion. An understanding of charity governance would be an advantage. Crucial to success in the role will be the ability to communicate clearly, cheerfully and tactfully with people at all levels, both internally and externally.

QNIS Council:QNIS Council includes up to 15 Trustees. It meets four times per year to discuss governance issues, and an AGM takes place usually in November. The meetings are currently held online during working hours, although we are planning at least one meeting this year in Edinburgh. Council papers are sent out a week in advance.
The role:The Institute is currently looking for a new Chair to oversee the highest standards of governance for a flourishing organisation in line withOSCR’s Guidance on Charity Trustee Duties. We are looking for a Chair who will lead this ambitious small charity as it seeks to unleash the potential of nurses across Scotland’s communities.
The role of the Chair is to:
·Lead the Council of Trustees, ensuring that collectively there are the right skills and expertise for good governance.
·Work with Trustees to make sure that the charity is operating sustainably, strategically, effectively and there is sound financial governance.
·Establish a great working relationship with the Chief Executive and Nurse Director providing support and advice while respecting executive responsibility.
·Facilitate meetings with energy and good humour so Trustees enjoy their governance role.

These meetings generally take place online to support the involvement of Trustees from across Scotland.
The Board Perspective Committee will consider applications for the current vacancies.
Roles and Responsibility of QNIS Trustees
QNIS Trustees ensure that the charity meets the aims and objectives defined in the QNIS Constitution. All QNIS Trustees act in a voluntary capacity to ensure good governance of the charity. Some Trustees provide more specific expertise, depending on their experience, e.g. law, finance, and fund management. Trustees are expected:
· To ensure effective governance of the charity
· To act as an ambassador for QNIS
· To take collective responsibility for Council decisions in the best interest of the charity
· To guide the work of the charity in line with its purpose
· To work with staff and other stakeholders to shape the future vision of the charity.
We are particularly interested in applications from those with financial skills at a senior level and those with a background in charity/general/HR law. QNIS has a clear diversity and inclusion policy. We are keen to receive applications from people based all over Scotland.

About the role
This is a new role to develop the strategic direction for external affairs on behalf of the charity. It is an opportunity to tell the story of the outstanding work of Scotland’s community nurses and midwives to policy makers and the public, as well as the role of QNIS. With the team, the postholder will develop a communication, policy and influencing strategy which enables QNIS to share the evidence of its programmes with a range of audiences. This is vital to our fundraising and sustainability.
The role includes developing an effective network of policy and communications contacts on behalf of the charity, building relationships with Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament and parliamentarians, health, and care organisations. In addition, the postholder will take an overview of all QNIS outputs ensuring that the brand of QNIS is clearly defined and consistent.
The role includes being part of the senior team at QNIS, shaping responses to relevant policy and professional issues for community nursing, and the ongoing development of the charity. There are currently two staff in the communications team who focus on digital engagement and the post holder will provide leadership and line management support for them.
The post is full time (37.5 hours), based mainly in our office in central Edinburgh, with scope for some flexible working from home. We are offering a salary of £50,825. Benefits include: a 10% contributory group pension with Aegon, with salary sacrifice option; 28 days annual leave with an additional 10 bank holiday days which can be taken flexibly.
About you
A highly experienced communications professional with a proven track record in media relations, policy and parliamentary affairs, you will be able to take an overview of external affairs for the charity. You will bring an energy and creativity to enhancing the brand and outputs of the charity to enable us to better support the nurses and midwives who work in Scotland’s communities.
With a broad knowledge of the health and social care policy landscape of Scotland, you will have an understanding of the range of issues affecting community nurses and midwives and Scotland’s public health challenges.
You will be highly self-aware and committed to wellbeing and self-care of yourself and others, bringing your own compassionate and creative leadership to the senior team at QNIS.

The post is 37.5 hours a week, 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday with a 30-minute lunch. The post is based mainly in our office in central Edinburgh, with some scope for flexible working from home. We are offering a salary of £21,963 - £24,835 depending on experience.

With an aptitude for digital media, you will have excellent writing skills, as well as be highly organised. You will be able to demonstrate highly proficient IT skills and an ability to cope with several tasks at once and constant interruptions. Crucial to success in the role is a high level of self-awareness, and the ability to communicate patiently, cheerfully and tactfully with everyone. This is an excellent opportunity to develop transferable skills within a small team whilst expanding your creative portfolio in digital communications. We work on Microsoft365 using the full suite of MSOffice programmes, the website is on WordPress. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications desirable, though not essential.

We are looking for a brilliant organiser with a keen interest in nursing and befriending, who can coordinate our network of retired Queen’s Nurses who trained before 1969. These are inspirational people who have served the communities of Scotland for decades. It is a wide-ranging role that will see you developing supportive relationships with this community and managing a database which enables us to communicate well. The post involves providing thoughtful support to retired nurses, their families and the volunteer visitors who support them. This may be through telephone calls, sending cards to mark significant birthdays, newsletters, hardship grants or organising events across the country. Being a small team, we also need someone who from time to time is happy to roll up their sleeves and pitch in with whatever’s required.
The post is offered 15 hours per week, based at home with occasional travel to events and team meetings in Edinburgh. We are offering a salary of 27,706 (pro rata). We offer a 10% contributory pension, 38 days leave (pro rata including public holidays) and flexible working.
About you
With a strong interest in nursing, befriending and experience of safeguarding you will be highly organised and able to balance deadlines with a high level of attention to detail. You will be able to demonstrate effective project management and an ability to coordinate a range of activities despite interruptions. Crucial to success in the role is a high level of self-awareness, the ability to communicate patiently, cheerfully and tactfully with the retired Queen’s Nurses, and the wider QNIS community. You will be someone who enjoys bringing people together for fellowship and support and creating ways to capture the stories of the past and share them with a new generation. Familiarity with the suite of Microsoft Office packages and database management would be an advantage.

About QNIS and this programme:
The Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland is the only independent charity that supports and advocates for community nursing across Scotland. Throughout its 132-year history, QNIS has been devoted to overcoming inequalities, as well as improving the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland at all ages and stages of life. Healthier Pregnancies, Better Lives is a new programme to help women and their partners prepare for pregnancy; prevent unwelcome outcomes; and improve responses to people born with life-changing neurological conditions - such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
The role:
We have a great opportunity for a dynamic project coordinator to join our team. This newly created position will see you providing high quality administrative support to this new programme.
This wide-ranging role includes: preparing and maintaining the schedules and activities for a large variety of individual, community and organisational participants; keeping accurate records; effectively managing large amounts of information; and providing efficient support to the Programme Lead. You will use your diplomacy and communications skills (verbal and written) as you engage with the diverse individuals and groups involved in this work. Being a small team, we need someone with a ‘can do’ attitude who effectively and cheerfully pitches in to do whatever is required.
The post is full-time (37.5 hours per week). We support flexible scheduling. QNIS is offering a salary in the £24,845 - £27,832 range, largely dependent upon experience. We offer a 10% contributory pension and 38 days leave (including public holidays). During the COVID-19 pandemic, QNIS staff are working remotely (with necessary equipment and support provided). This is a contract through 31 March 2022 with a good possibility of continuing for up to four more years, depending upon external funding.
