Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre is a dynamic, community-based organisation operating for the benefit of people living in the Orbiston and Bellshill area of North Lanarkshire. Our vision is of a thriving, inclusive community where people live, work and play in harmony. Principal services are Childcare, Elderly Care, Community Cafe, Food Coop, Computer Learning, Befriending and Volunteering. In addition to this we also provide meeting space for other groups and activities.

Bookkeeper / Administrator

UTHEO is a non-profit organisation that provides a range of services within our busy Neighbourhood Centre.

We require a Bookkeeper / Administrator with experience of all aspects of financial management, PAYE, book-keeping, SAGE Accounts, knowledge of payroll and producing accounts to trial balance stage. The post holder will provide administrative support relevant to this position and have a good working knowledge of MS Office packages.

You will have excellent financial, communication, organisational and administrative skills and be educated to an HND level, however appropriate HNC or suitable experience may be given consideration. Candidates will ideally have an understanding of the voluntary sector and charity funding plus an interest in and an understanding of our work.

(Fixed term contract until 31st March 2026, subject to further funding thereafter)

Cook/Chef

Theo’s Community Café is a busy café based inside Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre. It caters for service users/groups, café users as well as outside catering for other groups.

The role would be to assist the Catering Manager in setting menus, preparing and cooking various food items to a high standard and serving customers.

Maintaining excellent hygiene standards and ensuring all health, safety and hygiene procedures are fully complied with.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a team that delivers services and activities to the Bellshill community.

Eligibility

The successful candidate will need to have a City and Guilds food preparation or equivalent qualification as well as a minimum of three years relevant experience.

Befriending Support Worker

We require an enthusiastic person to join our small, dedicated and successful team to support the work of the project with specific responsibilities to manage, develop and coordinate the project’s group work and telephone, visit and take befriendees on short local outings. You should have a genuine interest in and an understanding of our work, working with and supporting people; experience of administrative and office procedures, good organisational and communication skills, have competent office IT skills an understanding of the voluntary sector.

The Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre is currently recruiting for a new and exciting role.

We are looking for an individual who enjoys a varied workload, where each day is different.

You will primarily be responsible for three main areas: volunteer recruitment and coordination, supporting the Manager in administration especially for Strategic groups, and supporting the Manager to effectively manage the time of staff, including devising rotas where necessary.

You will also support the Development Manager and Resource Officer to carry out the daily functions of The Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre.

Essential Criteria: Excellent communication and organisational skills and an ability to maintain and develop systems and processes relevant to the role. Ideally you will have experience of working in a charity or community group, though this is not essential.

Priorities include delivering community based services and activities, securing funds to ensure the organisation continues to operate, line-managing staff, overseeing the delivery of services/projects and making sure the charitable aims and its statutory requirements are fulfilled.
