Join our team in South West! Currently providing support to over 30 autistic people across Lanark, Biggar & Carluke. We encourage and empower individuals to access opportunities that matter to them including accessing work placements, voluntary projects and a variety of social opportunities.

At Scottish Autism we acknowledge the specialist support our staff provide to autistic individuals, therefore those doing support work are known as Autism Practitioners. We continuously improve to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service. This post is a good opportunity for those with a generic support worker experience to specialise.

As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential as we are seeking to appoint people who are willing to learn and develop into the role and share our organisational values: Collaboration, Compassion, Change Makers, & Contribution. We will support you to do this by offering an extensive autism specific training programme.

Autism Practitioners work as part of a team to:

• Develop, review and implement personalised support plans for the supported individual,
• Build positive relationships with the supported individual,
• Work in partnership with the supported individual, and their support network,
• Work with stakeholders to ensure the supported individual’s life goals and aspirations are at the centre of their support.

On a day-to-day basis, Autism Practitioners enable supported individuals:

• To take part in their chosen activities, and access local community opportunities,
• To help maintain their tenancies and support them to make the decisions that matter to them.
• To promote independence and active citizenship, community inclusion, support with household chores. Required support may include personal care.

As part of your role, you will be required to undertake shift work, including weekends and evenings, so flexibility towards working hours is key.

Across our South West Area Services, we support 48 autistic adults across several welcoming locations. Our care is tailored to each person’s needs, including Housing Support, residential care, and transitional assessment services. You’ll be joining a warm, dedicated team that’s passionate about making a real difference and always looking for ways to grow and improve.

About the Role

As the Senior Autism Practitioner, you’ll ensure the successful delivery of each person’s service across our South West Services. Leading a team of dedicated Autism Practitioners, you will inspire them to provide a consistent, high-quality support service to autistic people. You will coach and mentor them to ensure they perform to the best of their ability.

Using your outstanding communication skills, you’ll collaborate closely with families, agencies and multi-disciplinary teams to implement and further develop support plans designed to help individuals succeed in their day-to-day lives.

Actively involving yourself in the recruitment process, you will always be on the lookout for talented individuals who could make the team even stronger.

About You

To be considered for this diverse role, you must have:

• Experience gained within a supervisory and/or management role within social care
• Demonstrated experience in supporting autistic people
• Experience coaching and mentoring colleagues
• A health and social care qualification, or the willingness to gain an SVQ Level 4 in health & social care and Leadership and Management for Care Services (LMC) qualification provided by the organisation
• A good level of IT literacy, including MS Word and Excel
• A Full UK Driving License.
• Able to work a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends and support with regular on-call support. This can be discussed further at interview.

With the focus on ongoing delivery, consolidation, and development of new services, we require an individual who is innovative and creative to develop these effectively. This will be in partnership with key stakeholders, supported individuals, parents and health professionals. Our leadership culture is about creating a positive, constructive, and supportive environment for the people we support, and our staff whom they depend on. You will also lead and influence partnership working, with Local Authority Commissioners, Care Inspectorate and SSSC to ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled while meeting care standards.

The suitable candidate will lead our West of Scotland and Orkney services, with a mixture of Housing Support and Outreach Support Services. You will have a relevant professional qualification in a related discipline and management experience. You will be responsible for overseeing the services provided within this area and as such will be an effective leader, coach, communicator, negotiator with the ability to influence and challenge, building strong relationships across multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring advanced autism practice.
