This role will manage a team of Children and Young people Habilitation Specialists working across Scotland, therefore experience of working with children and young people aged 0-25 years or a strong desire to work with children is important in this role.

The Skills, Information & Support Services (SISS) Operations Manager helps those with sight loss to live the life they choose by leading and managing a cross functional operations team of staff and volunteers working with children and young people and their families to provide the consistent delivery of person-centred services in accordance with their needs. This will include supporting the development and training of Trainees and inducting new starters to the team.

The Policy and Campaigns Manager helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose by leading the development of policy and campaigns in Scotland to support Guide Dogs strategic aims, working in collaboration with the central policy, public affairs and campaigns team and the country leadership team. This role will develop and foster strategic partnerships to further the aims of Guide Dogs in the country including relations with devolved government, local societies, local authorities and other relevant organisations. This role will lead Guide Dogs' campaigns at a regional level and increase the involvement of blind and partially sighted people in campaigning. From time to time the post-holder will be required to work on projects impacting a different country; for example Northern Ireland.

This role is 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, with 26 days paid holiday (excluding bank holidays) a year.

As a Trainee Orientation and Mobility Specialist you will contribute, as a full-time member of staff, to the services delivered by the Scotland Team whilst successfully completing all elements of the 2-year Apprenticeship Training programme in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment). We are keen to hear from candidates living in the central belt area.

The content of the apprenticeship will be covered through a mix of on the job, and off the job training.

On the job training will be provided by Guide Dogs as part of the job role of Trainee Orientation and Mobility Specialist. Off the job training will be delivered by Birmingham City University (BCU) key details of which are below.

Birmingham City University Course key dates

BCU Assessment dates: week beginning 4th April 2022 at BCU

Course dates: BCU Starting in September 2022, 2-year course.

Successful applicants will be required to apply to, and be accepted by, Birmingham City University for the Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment) – FdSc course. The applications need to be submitted after a job offer has been made and accepted, and before to increase chance of gaining a place on the course. Places on the University course are limited for the September 2022 start date, and offers will be made on a first come, first served basis. Positions are not held back for Guide Dogs employees.

Academy Guide Dog Mobility Specialist

As an Academy Guide Dog Mobility Specialist (A-GDMS), you will be responsible for learning to deliver partnership training in line with Guide Dog Standards, as well as carry out assessments for matching dogs and service users, design and implement individual training plans and work closely with service users to develop their guide dog partnership skills. You will be key in ensuring service users become confident and skilled in their guide dog partnership.

Once you have completed the learning and development programme, you will join your local team. As a Trainee Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, you will contribute, as a full-time member of staff, to the services delivered by either the Edinburgh Team (supporting Central/ East Scotland) or Glasgow Team, whilst successfully completing all elements of the 2-year Training programme in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment).

The content of the training will be covered through a mix of on the job, and off the job training. On the job training will be provided by Guide Dogs as part of the job role of Trainee Vision Rehabilitation Specialist. Off the job training will be covered by the Training Providers course, delivered by Birmingham City University (BCU).

Guide Dogs has a fantastic new job opportunity for an Access Assistant based in the South of Glasgow who has a full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle. Some basic administrative skills are also required.

Working as a driver and admin support you will be driving and supporting a visually impaired Guide Dogs Employee on a day-to-day basis, enabling them to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively.
