Cyrenians’ vision is of an inclusive society in which we all have the opportunities to live valued and fulfilling lives. We work to make that vision a reality through a wide range of services aimed at tackling the causes and consequences of home-lessness and through working with stakeholders across Scotland who can help us achieve this vision. Last year we supported over 11,600 people in their time of need, welcoming a further 13,000 people to Cyrenians services, events and train-ing courses. Over 900 volunteers generously gifted a total of 76, 673 hours of their time, knowledge, support and experience to us across our organisation.

  • On site: Family Outreach Worker
  • Closing 21st April 2025

Do you want to support young people and families to resolve conflict? Do you want to work for an organisation that strives to prevent youth homelessness?

If so, our Family Outreach Worker role could be for you!

About the service

Cyrenians Mediation & Support service has been working with families in Scotland since 2006. We know family breakdown is the main cause of youth homelessness in Scotland, which is why we endeavour to ensure every young person we work with has a safe home environment and the strong relationships that make this possible.

This role is part of The Keeping Families Together project which launched in 2020, to support young people aged 12+ in secure accommodation and their families at the point of admission, as well as those who are in the process of returning home.

The people we work with experience varied challenges, including; involvement in the criminal justice system; substance abuse; being in the care-system; and adverse childhood experiences.

About the role

Building on our award-winning ‘Amber’ model of whole-family mediation and support, you will be responsible for offering practical support for family members. In this exciting role you will help build positive relationships, promote better communication, and reduce the potential for future conflict and its further consequences.

Working in collaboration with a Mediator, you will be supporting families to engage with the mediation process and other relevant interventions, to reduce the chance of the young person becoming homeless or further involved in the criminal justice system.

About you

We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication skills and experience of supporting children, young people and/or families in similar situations. You should also be:

  • Well organised and effective with your time management.
  • Flexible and creative in your approach
  • A strong team player
  • Committed to providing the highest quality of support
  • Able to demonstrate our values of compassion, respect, integrity, and innovation in the work that you do.

How we will support you

You’ll be part of a small team, led by a supportive manager. There will be great opportunities for you to learn and develop, while sharing your skills and experiences. You will have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.

About us

At Cyrenians we tackle the causes and consequences of homelessness by taking a Public Health Approach to Homelessness Prevention. We take a values-led and relationships-based approach to delivering all our services.
