Financial Wellbeing and Energy Advice Worker

  • Full time
  • £34,390 – £38,451
  • Hybrid: Aberdeen or Inverness
  • Closing 1st November 2026

Caring for a child with a life-shortening condition can bring unexpected financial pressures, including higher care and energy costs and changes to a family’s income. In this role, you will provide practical, compassionate advice that helps families understand their options and maximise the money available to them.

You will join CHAS’s supportive and experienced Financial Wellbeing and Energy Advice Team, working primarily with teams in Aberdeen and Inverness and alongside Family Support Teams across CHAS. The team achieved more than £1.7 million in financial gains for CHAS families last year.

Funded through a grant from Scottish Gas Network (SGN), this post will extend financial wellbeing and energy advice for families in the Grampian and Highland regions. This is a temporary role, currently funded until 30 September 2028.

The Role

You will work directly with families of children with life-shortening conditions, providing one-to-one support across income maximisation, welfare benefits, money advice and energy advice.

This is a hybrid role, with a requirement to work from your Aberdeen or Inverness base one day each week. You will also undertake home visits and manage your own diary, giving you the flexibility to plan your workload around the needs of families and the service.

Your work will include:

  • Explaining benefit entitlements and supporting families through applications and casework.
  • Helping families identify ways to maximise income and strengthen their financial wellbeing.
  • Providing impartial energy advice and information on energy efficiency.
  • Supporting applications to benevolent funds, trusts and other sources of financial help.
  • Signposting or referring families to specialist services when further support is required.
  • Building effective relationships with external organisations, partners and volunteers.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring practical advice skills, sound judgement and a family-centred approach. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Experience of providing welfare benefits, money, income maximisation or energy advice.
  • Confidence managing casework and supporting people through applications and complex processes.
  • The ability to explain detailed information clearly, sensitively and in accessible language.
  • A commitment to impartial, accurate and person-centred advice.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partner organisations.
  • Good organisation and record keeping, with the confidence to manage your own diary, caseload, home visits and a varied workload.

A driving licence, access to a car and willingness to travel is essential for this post as travel to family homes across both Grampian and Highland regions for home visits will be a core responsibility of this role.

Prospect Research Executive

  • Full time
  • £31,140 – £36,556
  • On site: Edinburgh or Glasgow - Other CHAS sites may be considered as a base location, but travel to Edinburgh or Glasgow should be expected.
  • Closing 2nd November 2026

Can you turn research and intelligence into practical opportunities that help fundraisers build stronger relationships and grow income? We are looking for a curious, analytical and collaborative Philanthropy Executive to strengthen CHAS’s prospect pipeline and help identify the people, organisations and connections with the greatest potential to support children and families across Scotland.

This is much more than a desk research role. You will combine high-quality prospect research and donor intelligence with sound judgement, relationship mapping and pipeline insight. Working closely with fundraisers and external research partners, you will identify and qualify prospective supporters, recommend routes to engagement and help ensure promising opportunities are progressed effectively.

You will produce clear briefings and evidence-based recommendations across philanthropy, corporate foundations and partnerships and campaign fundraising. You will also help maintain accurate prospect information, support regular pipeline reviews and translate complex research into practical next steps that colleagues can act on.

The role sits within CHAS’s Partnerships & Philanthropy team and will contribute to long-term fundraising growth, including our More Than A Hospice appeal. It is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys connecting insight with action and wants their work to have a clear, meaningful purpose.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong research and analytical skills, excellent judgement and the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues across fundraising. You will have:

  • Experience in prospect research, fundraising, business intelligence or another insight-led role.
  • Experience of identifying and qualifying prospective supporters and producing clear research briefings, donor intelligence or similar written outputs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex information into practical, evidence-based recommendations.
  • The confidence to build trusted working relationships, contribute constructively to prospect and pipeline reviews and influence priorities through insight.
  • Experience of using a CRM or comparable information system to manage accurate records, activity and next steps.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities and deadlines.
  • A sound understanding of responsible information management, including data protection and confidentiality.

Experience of major donor, corporate foundations, or campaign fundraising would be helpful, as would experience of relationship mapping, due diligence, wealth screening or working with external research providers. These are desirable rather than essential.

About CHAS

We have ambitions to reach every family in Scotland who is living with the heart-breaking prognosis that their child is dying and offer them our care and support to empower them to make the most of the short time they have together, as well as supporting them with life after loss.

Our fundraising teams make this possible by building meaningful, long-term relationships with people and organisations who share our ambition. In this role, your insight will help colleagues focus on the strongest opportunities, understand prospective supporters and develop thoughtful routes to engagement.

  • Flexible working: Our teams work flexibly and in a hybrid way, with time split between home and CHAS locations (predominantly Edinburgh and Glasgow). We are happy to discuss working arrangements that work for you.
  • Varied, purposeful work: You will contribute across philanthropy, trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, campaigns, cultivation activity and prospect development.
  • Professional growth: You will work within a supportive and ambitious team, collaborating with experienced fundraisers and specialist external research partners.
  • Comprehensive benefits: CHAS offers generous annual leave and pension, incremental salary progression, access to Blue Light discounts, and health and wellbeing support.
