We are seeking an energetic and passionate leader, who enjoys driving transformation and has a successful track record of understanding what it takes to build and support successful organisations, to join us in the role of Operations Director. The primary purpose of the role will be to lead our operational teams, working with other Directors to enhance our performance and continually review and refine our service offering.

This rare opportunity will assist the Board of the Green Action Trust shape the organisation’s future and help cement its place as the go-to environmental regeneration partner of choice across Scotland. Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Operations Director will be a key strategic manager, member of the Trust’s Executive Management Team and will have principal responsibility for managing and developing our broad portfolio of services, projects and programmes.

You will have experience of strategic management, providing oversight and direction of internal operations, in addition to overarching responsibility for budgets, inward investment and relationship management. You will thrive on meeting challenges head on and will have a demonstrable track record of leading business growth and organisational development.

You will be a visible leader with a highly collaborative style to support our operations to be effective, with the ability to drive change, set clear direction and inspire multi-disciplinary teams. You may not come from the charity sector but you will have a passion for the role that civil society organisations play across Scotland. We will be looking to your expertise, honesty and leadership ability as we galvanise our employees and stakeholders to leave a lasting legacy of environmental gain.

Commercial acumen and highly effective communication and interpersonal skills are a must. Operations Manager

The Green Action Trust is one of Scotland’s leading environmental charities. We have been regenerating Central Scotland by undertaking landscape scale projects; creating and improving greenspaces, planting and managing woodlands, greening vacant and derelict land, creating and maintaining paths and enhancing a range of habitats for over 40 years. We are specifically responsible for delivering the Central Scotland Green Network. We are passionate about the positive environmental and social change we can deliver in Scotland and are seeking candidates who have a similar passion to help us create this change.

The role involves working in partnership with other organisations, developing new work, overseeing a programme of projects, and managing a team of staff.

Applications are sought from individuals with:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience within the environmental sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of how positive land use change can help tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.
  • A track record of developing programmes and projects by working collaboratively with others.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Experience of line management and capacity planning.
  • Good working knowledge of the current funding available for environmental project work in Scotland and experience in securing and managing significant funding packages.

Leven Engagement Officer

We have an exciting opportunity within our Development Team to lead on behaviour change and stakeholder engagement activity for a large-scale regeneration programme in Leven in Fife. This post will oversee the development of plans for community wealth building activities through providing behaviour change and engagement support, that will inform delivery phase applications to Sustrans and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

This is a 28 hour a week position until 30 Nov 2023 with the potential for extension until 31 March 2028, subject to funding. Further information on the Leven Programme can be found in the recruitment pack.

We are looking for an individual who is solution-orientated, motivated by their work and has enthusiasm for improving the environment. Applications are sought from individuals with:

  • a background in stakeholder and community engagement, behaviour change and community wealth building
  • excellent communication skills
  • computer literacy skills
  • experience working with communities
  • experience of working on large, multi-disciplinary projects would also be desirable

We are currently operating a hybrid working practice, with home working combined with office working from our office in Shotts, North Lanarkshire. We are also exploring a hub space within Leven itself. Travel within Scotland is potentially required; therefore easy access to transport is essential and clean driving licence and access to a vehicle, desirable.

The post will work 4 days a week on the Leven Programme projects and 1 day a week on supporting general Green Action Trust communications work.

Specifically, they are responsible for delivery of the Central Scotland Green Network, a £2.4 billion, 40-year programme and one of the largest green infrastructure initiatives in Europe.

By 2025, Green Action Trust’s strategic ambition is to be regarded as the nation’s leading environmental regeneration charity and go-to-organisation working with a wide and varied range of stakeholders and organisations across Scotland.

The CSGN is more than just a ‘Green’ initiative, it is designed to support, link up and build on existing greening partnerships and programmes with the objective of improving the social, physical, cultural, and environmental well-being of central Scotland. Covering an area of 10,000km2, which includes 19 of Scotland’s 32 local authorities, from Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Dunbartonshire in the West to Fife and the Lothians in the East, the CSGN takes in 87% of the country’s most deprived areas and offers the potential to improve the lives of 3.5 million people, or 65% of the population.

The Development Manager (CSGN) is a new and unique role with not many like it in the UK. It has specific responsibility for the operational management and development of the CSGN, in partnership with a multitude of high profile stakeholders. It is a significant role with key objectives around raising awareness, increasing interest and driving action. You don’t need to have a background in the environmental sector, although you should have a passion for it. You should be experienced in understanding and conveying government policy, reports, monitoring and evaluation data. You should be innovative, a confident communicator, planner and thinker who can engage and build partnerships with the aim of getting stakeholder buy in.

We are passionate about delivering positive environmental and social change in Scotland and are seeking candidates who have a similar passion to help us expand and grow our activities. The Forester role involves woodland design, woodland management planning, cost estimating, management and delivery of work programmes (including management of contracts and contractors) and securing forestry grants.

  • A track record of managing and overseeing woodland creation, woodland management and/or environmental projects.
  • Relevant academic qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills, computer literacy and confident in using GIS.

The CSGN Programme Manager will have responsibility for engaging with all CSGN stakeholders and partners, managing these relationships and ensuring excellent two-way communication and engagement in support of the CSGN priorities, action plans and strategic initiatives.

The CSGN Programme Manager will work very closely with key Scottish Government contacts providing appropriate reports, monitoring and evaluation data, policy analysis and ideas for innovation and development. They will have a specific responsibility for promoting the impact and value of the CSGN programme across all media channels as well as increasing its funding base.
