What you’ll do

As Day Services Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing high quality, therapeutic registered day services and commissioned and non-commissioned community supports for people with dementia, those at greater risk of dementia, and their families, and carers within the area.

You will be responsible for ensuring that services are of the highest quality, meet Alzheimer Scotland’s vision for unique therapeutic, highly person-centred support. There is also the responsibility for ensuring that our commissioned services meet all service level agreement, contract specifications and Alzheimer Scotland’s quality guarantees.

You will have overall day-to-day responsibility for the services within the area and will be responsible for promoting the services with key local stakeholders within Health and Social Care as well as relevant other organisations. As Day Services Manager you will manage the referral and assessment process.

You will work collaboratively with the Head of Services to ensure safe practice and delivery of high-quality, person-centred therapeutic day services, ensuring practice complies with Alzheimer Scotland’s policies. You will be responsible for evidencing, reviewing and continually improving the quality of the services and will proactively participate in internal audit and Care Inspectorate inspections. This will include evidencing that services meet Alzheimer Scotland’s Quality Guarantees, Scotland’s Health and Social Care standards and other quality frameworks including those of the Care Inspectorate where relevant. This includes ensuring that the activities and supports offered meet the identified personal outcomes of those attending the services.

You will provide strong line management and leadership to your team, through setting clear objectives and outcomes, regular review within Support & Development processes and undertaking appraisals.

What you’ll have

The successful candidate will have experience of managing a team in a social care, health or other similar setting or be able to demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of the key principles and good practice of effectively managing and leading a team.

You will have knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards and SSSC codes of practice and the Care Inspectorate and their role in registered services.

Understanding and knowledge of dementia, mild cognitive impairment and Brain Health and experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families.

The successful candidate will have a recognised professional qualification in health, social work or related field, to SCQF Level 7 (SVQ 3)

If so, you can be part of a National Team of Post Diagnostic Support Link Workers (PDS Link Workers) providing high-quality, person-centred support to people living with dementia and their families for a minimum of a year following diagnosis in line the Scottish Government’s minimum guarantee.

The aim of the PDS National Service is to enable people to live well with dementia and is centred around Alzheimer Scotland's 5 pillar model so that people move on to a period of supported self- management.

The model includes understanding the illness and coming to terms with the diagnosis, peer support, connecting and maintaining links with their community along with planning for future care and decision making to develop an outcome focused plan to support their future hopes, desires and aspirations.

Supporting our Skye and Lochalsh Highland locality, the post will be based within the Community Mental Health Team at Tigh Na Drochaid Resource Centre, Portree . Alzheimer Scotland’s PDS Link Workers are required to be effective team workers and have the skills to build and maintain relationships with colleagues both within Alzheimer Scotland, the NHS and other stakeholders.

Skills in using digital platforms are essential as we use a blended approach to support people that involve some virtual meetings and on-line groups.

Applicants must hold a recognised relevant professional qualification, have a good understanding of dementia and how it affects people and their families along with excellent communication skills, a warm flexible approach, combined with skills in empathy and relationship building.

In addition, you should have skills and knowledge at the Enhanced Level of the Promoting Excellence Framework or be able to evidence you are working towards its completion.

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to work within Alzheimer Scotland as a Centre Manager in Perth on a permanent basis, 35 hours per week.

The Centre Manager will lead and manage a team providing Alzheimer Scotland’s programme of support for people concerned about their brain health or affected by dementia. The Centre Manager will be key to the successful delivery of Alzheimer Scotland’s vision to develop a programme of brain health and dementia support at identified centres across Scotland. Alzheimer Scotland is named after Alois (A-lo-ish) Alzheimer who first identified the brain disease we now recognise as the leading cause of dementia. By building a range of engaging and supportive services in the heart of their community, the Centre Manager will ensure that people have access to:

Advice - our expert advisors can offer one-to-one help with anything from building cognitive resilience, to managing money matters and legal issues.

Listening - we offer places to be heard, whatever the question or concern, whenever help is needed.

Opportunities - to connect, learn and share with others in a similar situation.

Information - on all stages of the brain health journey, whether someone is worried about their brain health or living and caring well with dementia.

Support - everyone is welcome in our Centres, where those affected by dementia can feel safe with trusted staff who understand what they’re going through.

We are looking for a dynamic person who will support and deliver the ALOIS programme, embedding it within their daily practice and work alongside the Centres Lead to bring the programme to life.

Working with individuals and families, Centre Managers are required to have a warm, flexible approach, as well as skills in empathy and relationship building. We are looking for someone who has strong networking skills and experience of collaborating and developing partnerships both internally and externally.

Line management responsibilities for staff within the Centre is an expected part of the role, including development and supporting a network of volunteers.

Applicants will have an understanding of the aims and values of Alzheimer Scotland supported by excellent communication skills; hold a recognised professional qualification and/or have relevant experience with a willingness to learn and participate in training. A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join Alzheimer Scotland as a Centre Activities Coordinator, with three part-time positions available across our Edinburgh locations.

We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to form a team across our two sites:

Two postholders will be based at our new Outdoor Brain Health & Dementia Resource Centre at Lauriston Castle Lodge – with a strong focus on outdoor, nature-based, and green health activities.

One postholder will be based at our National Centre in West Edinburgh, supporting a wider range of dementia-friendly activities within a centre-based setting.

While each postholder will have a designated base, we anticipate that all three Centre Activities Coordinators will collaborate closely and provide support across both sites as needed, ensuring a seamless and inclusive experience for people living with dementia and their families.

About the Role

The Centre Activities Coordinators will play a vital role in developing and delivering engaging activities that align with our ALOIS programme model, which includes:

  • Creating inclusive spaces for listening and connection.
  • Offering meaningful opportunities for individuals and families to engage in therapeutic and social activities.
  • Tailoring activities to support brain health and provide dementia friendly engagement
  • Ensuring a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for those who need support.

At Lauriston Castle Lodge, the two Centre Activities Coordinators will take a lead in running outdoor and nature-based activities, making full use of the beautiful surroundings to provide a green health approach to brain health and dementia care. The aim is to support people in enjoying the outdoors in a safe, structured, and therapeutic way.

At the National Centre, the Centre Activities Coordinator will coordinate a range of centre-based activities, working with individuals, families, and partners in Health & Social Care, the NHS, and the wider community to enhance service delivery and raise awareness of dementia and brain health.

We are looking for dynamic, compassionate, and creative individuals who can support people in both indoor and outdoor settings. They should take a person-centred, flexible, and innovative approach to organising and leading activities while working collaboratively as part of a team. Strong relationship-building skills with attendees, volunteers, key partners and colleagues are essential.

We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and networking skills, a strong understanding of the values and mission of Alzheimer Scotland, and a willingness to learn and participate in relevant training. While experience working with people with dementia is desirable, it is not essential. A passion for community-based support is key, and for the Lauriston Castle Lodge roles, a genuine interest in the outdoors and green health is particularly important.
