I lost my kids a few times they went to foster care and I would have gone to a place like this if I had the chance. This is badly needed. I hid my drug use and people only found out about it when I had my baby and she was in withdrawal. I loved my daughter and would have welcomed something like this.” A mother who has been supported by Aberlour

About Aberlour Mother and Child Recovery House Dundee

Aberlour is proud to be working in partnership with the Scottish Government and we are delighted that the work being done in our dedicated Mother and Child Recovery in Dundee has recently been recognised with a high level assessment awarded by the Care Inspectorate. Our service is designed to enable children of women with problematic substance use to stay with their mothers during recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aims to deliver positive outcomes for women and their children.

We use the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) programme which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model. The programme is highly individualised to suit each family. Mothers are given their own Workbook and for many of them this becomes a personal journal of their treatment experience. The overarching aim of the PuP programme is to help parents facing adversity to develop positive and secure relationships with their children. Within this strength-based approach, the family environment becomes more nurturing and less conflictual. Full training on the PuP Programme will be provided to the whole team.

Too many women with problem drug and alcohol issues are having their young children taken into care and many other women won’t engage with support agencies for fear of their children being removed. The new houses will improve outcomes for these women and children; reduce deaths of mothers with problem drug use; avoid family breakdown and increase the likelihood of children being cared for by their parents.” Aberlour Chief Executive SallyAnn Kelly

Residential Support Worker (4 posts)

  • Full time
  • £28,583 – £31,896
  • Mother and Child Recovery House - Falkirk (On site)
  • Closing 8th May 2024

“I lost my kids a few times they went to foster care and I would have gone to a place like this if I had the chance. This is badly needed. I hid my drug use and people only found out about it when I had my baby and she was in withdrawal. I loved my daughter and would have welcomed something like this.”

A mother who has been supported by Aberlour

About Aberlour’s Mother and Child Recovery House

Aberlour is proud to be working in partnership with the Scottish Government and we are excited to be opening a new dedicated Mother and Child Recovery House based in central Falkirk. Building on the success of our house in Dundee, also funded by the Scottish Government, which opened just over a year ago, our service is designed to enable children of women with problem alcohol or other drug use to stay with their mothers during recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aims to deliver positive outcomes for women and their children. The house will accommodate up to 4 women with their children under 5.

We will be using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) programme which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model.

“Too many women with problem drug and alcohol issues are having their young children taken into care and many other women won’t engage with support agencies for fear of their children being removed. The new houses will improve outcomes for these women and children; reduce deaths of mothers with problem drug use; avoid family breakdown and increase the likelihood of children being cared for by their parents.”

Aberlour Chief Executive SallyAnn Kelly

Residential Worker, Nightshift - Sycamore Fort William

  • Part time
  • £28,583 pro-rata
  • Fort William (On site)
  • Closing 8th May 2024

About Sycamore Fort William

Aberlour Sycamore Services- Fort William, is a residential care home for children and young people up to the age of 18 years old, helping them to live and grow in a community setting. We work using a Dyadic Developmental Practice model which means that we ensure that the child and their behaviour is understood and the child feels as safe as possible at home, in school and in social activities.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for a Residential Worker to work part time 26.25 hours per week (105 hours per 4 weeks), usual hours would be 10pm to 8am, 3 nights on 5 nights off. There may also be the opportunity to pick up extra hours covering holidays and staff sickness. You will have a knowledge and understanding of the importance of attachment, trauma and how this can impact on an individual’s development. At times our children express their distress through their behaviour and the role can be emotionally and physically challenging; we are therefore looking for someone who is resilient, understands that behaviour is a means of communication and is trauma responsive.

Sometimes children become unsettled or upset during the night and you will play an essential role, nurturing them and supporting them through this so that they can settle to a point when they can be soothed back to sleep. Being a wakened night worker is very much more than being a ‘babysitter’ for the children – the very precious relationships you develop with the children in the house are absolutely key to the children’s feeling of safety, wellbeing and happiness living with us.

You must have the ability to quickly build your relationships with the adults within the house. The nature of the role is such that you could be working to cover a shift or longer periods as required, including days and wakened nightshifts and you may also be supporting young people to attend school or participate in other learning programmes. You must therefore be able to quickly adapt to the working environment within each house.

Undertaking the role of Residential Worker will afford you the opportunity to develop and build on a range of transferrable skills which are valued in a range of employment: you will be able to demonstrate excellent flexibility and adaptability with exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to work with different teams and different children, young people and young adults living within our Houses.

As well as a supportive team and excellent training opportunities, we want all our employees to feel valued and rewarded for the vital work they do. When you work with us, we'll recognise your efforts with generous annual leave, an excellent employer pension scheme and a range of deals and discounts across various retailers.

About Aberlour Guardianship Scotland

Guardianship Scotland is a specialist statutory service providing Independent Child Trafficking Guardians (ICTG) to all unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, victims of trafficking and children vulnerable to trafficking who arrive in Scotland. We deliver this in partnership with Aberlour and Scottish Refugee Council on behalf of the Scottish Government.

The children and young people we help in Guardianship have been through unimaginable traumas. Now, they must cope with being apart from their families in a strange, new country. They face language and cultural barriers, and they enter complex systems which include the welfare, asylum and trafficking processes which are very complicated, and it can be difficult for them to understand.

We support young people to understand these processes, stand by the young peoples’ side throughout these processes, support them to access the help they need and advocate when needed to ensure their views are clearly listened to. Our guardians support the young people to make informed decisions about their future and to settle into a new life in Scotland.

Lead Practitioner (2 posts)

  • Full time
  • £31,819
  • Mother and Child Recovery House- Falkirk (On site)
  • Closing 8th April 2024

“I lost my kids a few times they went to foster care and I would have gone to a place like this if I had the chance. This is badly needed. I hid my drug use and people only found out about it when I had my baby and she was in withdrawal. I loved my daughter and would have welcomed something like this.”

About our new Mother and Child Recovery House- Falkirk

Aberlour is proud to be working in partnership with the Scottish Government and we are excited to be opening a new dedicated Mother and Child Recovery House based in central Falkirk. Building on the success of our house in Dundee, also funded by the Scottish Government, which opened just over a year ago, our service is designed to enable children of women with problem alcohol and other drug use to stay with their mothers during recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aims to deliver positive outcomes for women and their children. The house will accommodate up to 4 women and their children under 5 years old.

We will be using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) programme which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for Lead Practitioners who share our vision and values and with the passion and ability to support managers in guiding and developing this new team. Your hours of work (37.5 per week) will be based around the needs of the families we work with which will include mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. This role will be working within both our outreach part of the service and in the residential house so that we can ensure that our families have continued support on their journey to recovery.

Your role will be to support the assessment, intervention and planning for women and their children; initially when women are referred to the service, during their stay in the residential house and supporting them when they return to their communities, working in partnership with other agencies.

The service is registered with the Care Inspectorate as a Care Home for Adults and so you are required to register with the SSSC as a Support Worker in a Care Home Service for Adults. Ideally, you will have experience of direct work with mothers in recovery, enhancing their skills and capacity for them and their babies. You must also have experience of working collaboratively with other professional agencies and a working knowledge of drug/alcohol use and its effects on women and children.

We strongly encourage people to apply who have lived experience of alcohol or drug use, with a minimum of 2 years living in recovery, free from all drug use and problem drinking. People with lived experience will provide crucial insight into the issues being faced by the women and children.

You will have a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above, or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means, with a willingness to complete required qualifications for SSSC registration.

At Aberlour we want to make sure every child and young person has the love, support and opportunity they need to reach their potential. If you share the same vision, we want you to join our team.

Guardianship Scotland is a specialist statutory service providing Independent Child Trafficking Guardians (ICTG) to all unaccompanied asylum seeking children, victims of trafficking and children vulnerable to trafficking who arrive in Scotland.

Could you be the person to support children to navigate complex processes and feel empowered throughout? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team.

  • Mother and Child Recovery House, Dundee
  • Closing 21st March 2024

“I lost my kids a few times they went to foster care and I would have gone to a place like this if I had the chance. This is badly needed. I hid my drug use and people only found out about it when I had my baby and she was in withdrawal. I loved my daughter and would have welcomed something like this.”

A mother who has been supported by Aberlour

About Aberlour’s Mother and Child Recovery House

Aberlour is proud to be working with the Scottish Government having established a new dedicated Mother and Child Residential Recovery House based in Dundee. Our service is designed to enable children of women with problematic substance use to stay with mothers during their recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aims to deliver positive outcomes for women and their children.

We are supporting families using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) program which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model. The program is highly individualized to suit each family. Parents are given their own Parent Workbook. For many parents, this becomes a personal journal of their treatment experience. The overarching aim of the PuP program is to help parents facing adversity develop positive and secure relationships with their children. Within this strength-based approach, the family environment becomes more nurturing and less conflictual.

About Aberlour Options Fife Residential Glenrothes (McNally House)

We are home to 3 young people aged between 15 and 21 years of age. We support our young people to live their best lives! We listen to them and understand what our young people want and need and help them in their daily lives. We work with our young people to create goals and support them to achieve these – no matter how big or small, nothing is impossible! “I love that McNally adults believe the young people can do anything” (quote from Aberlour Adult)

All our activities are tailored around our likes and dislikes of our young people, however this doesn’t mean that we don’t have fun too! “I love Mr Tumble disco on a Friday night…Weekends are such good fun!” (quote from Aberlour Adult).

Most importantly…. We LOVE our young people!

What can a day look like for us….

Our young people are at the heart of everything we do, and our young people want to tell you what a day looks like for them:

Adults help me to get up, washed and dressed in the morning. I am then given the choice of either my iPad or breakfast – it depends how I feel that day. Scrammed egg on toast with tomato sauce is my favourite breakfast and I also like a nice cup of tea.

During the day adults support me to attend different groups for example the nourish group, wheelchair line dancing, swimming, picnic at the park.

In my free time I enjoy arts and crafts, sensory play, and spending time in our new sensory room. My family are important to me, and I spend every other weekend with them. My favourite food is strawberries. My favourite film is Wizard of Oz. I like funny people because I have a great sense of humour and an infectious laugh. I love my bed and having a story read to me at night.

What we are looking for....

As a Young People’s Worker, you will play a fundamental role in our young people’s lives to ensure that they get the best possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plan. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical and emotional care; supporting our young people in their daily living and within the local community.

If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for Young People’s Workers, to work 37.5 hours per week.

These hours will be worked as part of a 24/7 residential rota, which will include mornings, evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays. You will also be expected to do sleepovers.

Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. However, if you share our values and have a passion for improving the lives of young people then we want to hear from you!

You are required to have or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ3 Care plus an HNC). If you do not have these qualifications, Aberlour supports candidates to achieve both of these within the required timescales.

A mother who has been supported by Aberlour

Aberlour is proud to be working with the Scottish Government to establish a new dedicated Mother and Child Residential Recovery House based in Dundee. Our service will be designed to enable children of women with problematic substance use to stay with mothers during

We will be supporting families using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) program which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model. The overarching aim of the PuP program is to help parents facing adversity develop positive and secure relationships with their children. Within this strength-based approach, the family environment becomes more nurturing and less conflictual.

Relief Residential Support Worker - Mother and Child Recovery House

  • Part time
  • Sessional
  • Dundee
  • Closing 27th August 2023

I lost my kids a few times they went to foster care and I would have gone to a place like this if I had the chance. This is badly needed. I hid my drug use and people only found out about it when I had my baby and she was in withdrawal. I loved my daughter and would have welcomed something like this.”

A mother who has been supported by Aberlour

About Aberlour’s Mother and Child Recovery House

Aberlour is proud to be working with the Scottish Government to establish a new dedicated Mother and Child Residential Recovery House based in Dundee. Our service will be designed to enable children of women with problematic substance use to stay with mothers during their recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aims to deliver positive outcomes for women and their children.

We will be supporting families using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) program which combines psychological principles relating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model.

Too many women with problem drug and alcohol issues are having their young children taken into care and many other women won’t engage with support agencies for fear of their children being removed. The new houses will improve outcomes for these women and children; reduce deaths of mothers with problem drug use; avoid family breakdown and increase the likelihood of children being cared for by their parents.”

Aberlour Chief Executive SallyAnn Kelly
