The Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust is a successful and widely-respected independent charity that undertakes community-based environmental projects, working with partners to improve the quality and accessibility of greenspaces in and around Scotland’s capital city. We believe that quality local greenspaces can have a positive impact on the health and well-being of individuals, particularly those living in disadvantaged areas. ELGT generates up to £1M annually to fund and manage projects that include the creation and improvement of parks and gardens, woodlands, vacant and derelict land and cycleways, in addition to delivering programmes of community activities to support healthy living and active travel.

Greenspace Projects Officer

ELGT is looking to employ a practical, site-focused Greenspace Projects Officer to help deliver a wide range of environmental and landscape projects — from parks and active travel routes to habitat creation and woodland works.

You will spend a significant amount of time on site, working with contractors, solving problems and keeping projects moving.

You might be working in landscaping, construction, or environmental delivery already — and looking for a role with more purpose and variety.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising contractors on site – monitoring quality, progress and performance
  • Coordinating works and solving on-site issues to keep projects on track
  • Supporting project planning, design development and programming
  • Checking drawings, specifications and works on the ground
  • Supporting contract admin, snagging and project handover
  • Monitoring health & safety and compliance on site
  • Working with councils, partners and communities

Who this role would suit:

Essential:

  • Experience in landscaping, construction, or land-based project delivery
  • Strong site supervision or contractor coordination experience
  • Experience working to drawings, specifications and programmes
  • Good understanding of health & safety on site
  • Confidence dealing with contractors and resolving issues

Desirable:

  • Green infrastructure or habitat project experience
  • Public sector or funded project experience
  • Relevant H&S qualifications (IOSH/SSSTS/SMSTS)

In addition to the above, you should have a Driving license and access to a vehicle will be required. There may also be occasional evening or weekend work.
