GBV Charter Officer

EmilyTest is a small Scottish charity working to tackle gender based violence in education. We work with schools, colleges and universities, helping them to develop effective policies, procedures and practices in relation to gender based violence prevention, intervention and support.

Our aim is to ensure every young person can live, work and study free from the harms and threats of Gender Based Violence.

Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two highly motivated GBV Charter Officers (1 x full time post, 1 x part time post) to join our dynamic and friendly team based in Glasgow. The GBV Charter Officers will play a key role in the delivery of the GBV Charter in universities and colleges across Scotland. Working with our Charter team, you will support roll-out and implementation of the Charter. Supporting charter universities and colleges in improving their policies, practices and procedures in relation to GBV prevention, intervention and support, helping them to meet each of the 42 minimum standards in the Charter. You will develop a customised plan for them and assist them on their journey of achieving the Charter award. Through building strong and trusting relationships with charter institutions you will provide efficient, effective and high-quality support.

The post will be subject to a 6 month trial period.

Essential knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience & personal qualities

  • Strong project management skills including planning and monitoring.
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for organisation.
  • Be self-motivated, work without supervision and show initiative.
  • Have a warm and friendly manner, be committed, hardworking and highly motivated.
  • Adept at handling sensitive or challenging situations with tact and diplomacy while ensuring positive outcomes for all parties involved.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with external partners and stakeholders to achieve shared objective.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a non-judgemental, confident and sensitive manner with colleagues, stakeholders and all partners.
  • Have an inclusive approach to tackling GBV with an understanding of its intersectional nature
  • Sound knowledge of client confidentiality and the practical application of GDPR.
  • Excellent time management with the ability to prioritise your workload.
  • The ability to remain calm in pressurised situations.
  • Knowledge of gender based violence and trauma informed practices.
  • Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel and Teams.

Desirable

  • Understanding of GBV and young people, particularly how it manifests in the College and University community.
  • Previous experience working with victims/survivors of GBV.
  • Previous experience working on Charters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including objectives, activities, timelines in alignment with the Charter minimum standards.
  • Provide regular updates and guidance for charter institutions, the team and the charity’s CEO. Reports should highlight achievements, challenges and suggested improvements.
  • Maintain system to overview project dates/deadlines
  • Progress report writing
  • Plan and schedule (& where required attend) Charter surgeries, meetings, assessment meetings, and other Charter related events
  • Liaise with colleges and universities and support Charter leads
  • Further develop and enhance the ‘library of tools’ that supports Charter Institutions, ensuring a diverse set of resources is available to help them achieve Charter minimum standards
  • Create, review and update Charter related guidance documents.
  • Represent the organisation in relevant conferences and meetings.

Understanding small charity dynamics, particularly resource constraints, is vital. Small charities, particularly those tackling Gender Based Violence, face limited resources, so we ask that you ensure you have a genuine commitment to building a career in the VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) sector before applying.

Exercising strong creativity and having good problem-solving skills are valuable assets in small charities. Applicants must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond effectively to last-minute changes and evolving circumstances.
