The No.1 Befriending Agency is a vibrant Social Enterprise that works to reduce loneliness and isolation. Part of how we do this is to ensure that older people can thrive in later life. We work with our dedicated volunteers to provide the support that local older people need to live happy, healthy lives. We work to help older people stay connected with their communities, alleviating loneliness, improving health and wellbeing and making communities stronger through volunteering. We are registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC).

Volunteer Coordinator

Are you passionate about making a difference in people’s lives? Do you believe in the power of volunteering to reduce loneliness and isolation, and build community? We’re looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to join our dedicated team at The No.1 Befriending Agency.

In this vital role, you’ll support and develop our amazing team of volunteers who provide in-person one-to-one befriending for older people across Glasgow. You’ll lead on volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision, while also supporting service users through every step of their journey with us.

Our befriending service includes individual support, regular social events, and access to cultural activities across the city- all designed to reduce isolation and help people stay connected. You’ll play a key part in making this happen.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers
  • Creating a welcoming, supportive environment for service users
  • Developing training resources and volunteer guidance
  • Coordinating service user assessments and monitoring impact
  • Managing project data and preparing update reports
  • Promoting our work through talks, outreach, and social media
  • Supporting our events and fundraising campaigns

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in volunteer management and training delivery
  • A background in community work (paid or voluntary)
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for helping others
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Confidence using IT systems for data and admin tasks
  • A proactive, resilient team player with empathy and initiative
