Love Glasgow’s heritage? Help steer Glasgow Building Preservation Trust’s strategic direction

We are seeking new voluntary board members to join our board of trustees.

Glasgow Building Preservation Trust is a charity which rescues and re-purposes historic buildings across Glasgow.

We have a legacy of over 40 years of working throughout the city, returning buildings at risk back to their communities from The Briggait, to Castlemilk Stables, Glasgow’s blue police boxes and amazing places like Kelvingrove Bandstand.

We introduced Doors Open Days to the UK and still run the much-loved Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival every September, providing free access to historic buildings and exclusive talks, walks, tours and other experiences.

We believe deeply that heritage and history are for everyone and work hard to help Glaswegians remember and celebrate their city’s stories.

Successful candidates will be offered attendance to Culture & Business Scotland’s Introduction to Being a Board Member training to ensure you have the tools to help us.

We believe that our board should reflect Glasgow’s diversity and particularly welcome applicants from minority ethnic backgrounds.

We encourage applications from people with experience in finance, law or fundraising/philanthropy at this time, but we are also interested in good people from all professional backgrounds.

The board meets four times a year, and trustees might also attend interim and sub-committee meetings and Trust events in addition to this.

Who we are

Established in 1994, Impact Arts is an innovative Scottish arts charity tackling inequalities in a diverse range of communities through unique creative engagement techniques, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, filmmaking, animation, and music.

Impact Arts specialises in using creative engagement to address the challenges of poverty, improve health and as a way to excite, involve and deliver meaningful impacts for each member of the communities we work in. The common challenge faced by all is that of poverty and its side effects, particularly poor mental health and life chances.

It is our mission to tackle inequalities in Scotland through creative engagement and we envisage a Scotland where everybody believes in the power of creativity to transform lives.

Purpose

Your role is to support participants to successfully participate in and complete the Impactful Parents programme. You will provide support to groups of parents (approximately 12 parents in Q3 and 12 in Q4) to develop employability skills and achieve outcomes set by the funder.

The School Communities (SC) team delivers a range of programmes that inspire schools, learning professionals, children and young people, and families to establish a culture of reading and writing for pleasure. Key programmes include Reading Schools, Read Write Count with the First Minister, Authors Live, the SC events programme, and the delivery of professional learning opportunities and learning resources.

The Regional Outreach Co-ordinator (West of Scotland) post is designed to cover the local authority areas of East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, and South Lanarkshire, with the initial focus on East Renfrewshire and Glasgow City. The post holder will work closely with the School Communities Manager (Learning and Development) on the delivery and development of the SC Outreach programme in the West of Scotland. The ROC’s are a remote team of four people based across Scotland supporting schools both within their areas and more widely across Scotland.

The role involves working closely with individual schools or key stakeholders in the designated local authorities to identify ways that they can engage with and benefit from our School Communities programmes. They will also join their ROC colleagues in delivering sessions that may require travel/ overnight stays away from home to ensure that we can cover the whole of Scotland to meet the needs and focus of the funding.

The post will also deliver professional learning opportunities to a range of audiences, in-person and online, to support the SC programmes, providing support to the Learning Content Manager to develop resources and working alongside the SC team and other SBT colleagues to ensure maximum impact for the programmes and audiences.

Our Operations Team plays a key role in ensuring the organisation runs smoothly, providing the operational support that enables our programmes, partnerships and commercial activities to succeed.

As our Operations and Sales Administrator, you will work closely with the Commercial Manager to provide essential administrative and operational support for our online shop. You'll be responsible for packing and dispatching customer orders, managing and organising stock, responding to customer enquiries, and helping to deliver an excellent customer experience.

You'll also support teams across the organisation with a variety of mailings and provide practical assistance with aspects of office and building management, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of Scottish Book Trust. This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit someone who is highly organised, proactive and enjoys balancing administration with practical tasks.

You will have:

• Experience in an administrative, logistics, retail or customer service role (including part-time or entry-level experience)
• Experience dealing with customer enquiries via email or phone in a professional manner
• Familiarity with online shop or e-commerce processes
• Experience of packing, dispatching orders or handling stock is desirable but not essential
• Ability to safely undertake manual handling activities, including lifting, carrying and moving stock, and to remain active during the working period while picking and packing customer orders/ organising mailings.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling orders and stock records
• Excellent organisational skills and time management skills, with meticulous attention to detail, taking a pride in working to a high standard
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with the ability to interact professionally, with a friendly, approachable manner
• Competent IT skills including use of common IT systems (e.g. Microsoft Office, email, databases or order systems, use of Royal Mail Click and Drop or other delivery providers would be advantageous)

You will also be:

• A team player but able to self-motivate and work to multiple priorities
• Confident to work across the organisation with multiple teams
• Reliable and adaptable, with a strong work ethic.

Other information:

Due to the nature of the role providing on-site support and services at our Central Edinburgh-based office, hybrid working does not apply to this post.

The hours of work are 12 per week / 4 hours per day during school term time, Monday to Thursday. Monday and Thursday are essential working days, the remaining time may be worked between that as agreed with the successful candidate.

This is a physically active role involving standing, packing, handling stock, moving equipment and preparing orders for dispatch. It can involve moving and lifting boxes weighing up to 20kg following appropriate training and safe working practices. Manual handling training will be provided.

The post may involve occasional travel within Scotland and out of office hours work from time to time including evenings and weekends.

A driving licence is desirable but is not essential.
