Role
Blindwells lies just off the A1 near to Tranent.
The developer Hargreaves has been working on site with East Lothian Council since 2017 and around 500 houses have been completed, both social & private housing. There is however outline planning permission for many more houses over the next twenty years.
The High Street is scheduled for construction and there will be two other schools. It is intended that the Church be a key community partner and part of the long term infrastructure.
Background to this post
The local churches have, led by the local Church of Scotland churches, been engaged in welcoming new residents to Blindwells for the past three years.
The opening of the first Primary school marks an important moment in the life of this fledgling new community. With space for community development now is the time to move from providing occasional gatherings to a more day to day working on the ground with residents.
The vision is for the establishment of a new Christian community that emerges from the local context. It is intended that this community will be ecumenical and will be at the heart of the Blindwells community.
Although initiated and led by the Church of Scotland applications are encouraged widely and an ecumenical advisory group has been formed.
Purpose of Post:
To lead the planning and implementation of Lothian & Borders Presbytery’s vision to develop Christian witness and ministry in the new settlement of Blindwells.
Main Duties :
- Developing the existing work by the local churches and to develop & initiate plans for establishing a new Christian community
- Reaching out and engage with children & families in Blindwells to start new community groups
- Building relationships with and engagement in local schools.
- Recruiting & building voluntary teams to be part of this work
- Overseeing all safeguarding & to lead training of this work
- Liasing with other local bodies, site developers, construction workers
- Work closely with the Blindwells Beacon Leadership team & the Local advisory group
- To communicate to Presbytery regularly and to share good practice with regard to mission with partner churches
- To undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Line Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with experience in youth work to be our Youth Development Leader. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the Good News of Jesus Christ and the spiritual development of young people. You would be expected to worship at Viewpark and be actively involved in the life of the congregation in order to become familiar with the congregation and the wider work undertaken there. The successful applicant’s main focus will be to facilitate and further develop our TeenSpace Project. This involves working with young people from 11 to 17 in conjunction with a range of ecumenical partners and other voluntary and statutory bodies. A wide range of volunteers is involved.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience of working with young people,
- Be experienced in starting projects and delivering to completion,
- Have an awareness of current issues affecting young people,

Greyfriars Kirk’s (GK) roots go back to 1620, and the site was a place of worship well before then. Today GK is a member of The Church of Scotland, and it has a small and committed congregation. The roll is about 250 and about 60 attend the main service on Sunday. GK hosts other services on Sundays as well as mid-week prayers on Thursday lunchtime. GK is a unique and special venue for special services such as weddings, funerals and memorials. GK is also hired for a variety of non-religious events such as concerts, exhibitions, conferences cèilidh’s, receptions and informal social functions. GK welcomes over 120,000 visitors throughout the year - (February to December).
Role Purpose
The key responsibility is to offer a supportive service to the Ministry Team to facilitate all practical aspects of services of worship in a respectful and dignified way. The Ministry Team includes the Minister, Associate Minister and other members of the Faith and Action Team. You will be required to attend Kirk’s core Sunday Services when on duty: weekly at 10:30am to 11:30am, and 12:30pm to 1:30pm for the Gaelic Service and monthly at 9:30am of communion. You will also be required to attend (where possible) funerals, weddings and other services (including rehearsals) in the Kirk and will be paid an additional fee to do so. You will offer a sensitive. supportive and welcoming service to all who attend.

Operations Manager – Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Manager to lead the commercial, operational, and outreach functions of St Cuthbert’s as part of the newly formed Greyfriars St Cuthbert’s congregation. This role is central to ensuring our buildings, activities, and partnerships are vibrant, sustainable, and aligned with our mission.
The postholder will manage events, develop income‑generating opportunities, oversee facilities and lead a small team of staff and volunteers.
Key Role Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Development
- Promote and curate the use of church spaces for artistic, cultural, community, and commercial activities with a clear marketing strategy.
- Build relationships with new and existing user groups to broaden engagement and increase bookings.
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities and grants to support the work of the church while implementing ideas that maximise visitor donations.

Cathcart Church of Scotland wish to appoint a new Church Officer to support the running of our church buildings as we worship God and serve our community.
The Employee will carry out the whole duties pertaining to the post of Church Officer which shall include: -
1. Preparation for and attendance at the usual diets of worship on Sundays, and also all additional Sunday or weekday services sanctioned by the Kirk Session. The attendance will ensure that all Ministerial requirements are met as required. Subject to the overall direction of the Minister, the Employee will, in connection with these duties, act on the instructions of the Session Clerk.
2. Preparation for all Committee and social meetings of the Congregation, Kirk Session, Kirk Session working groups and all other Church organisations and any meetings or series of meetings specially sanctioned or ordered to be held in the Church, halls or other accommodation (all herein referred to as “the premises”)
3. Preparation of the premises for all services, meetings etc. including the heating, airing and general making ready thereof.
4. Opening up and preparation of the premises for occupation by third parties as permitted by the Congregation and subsequently locking up and tidying up as required after such use.
5. After all services, meetings etc. the Employee shall be responsible for effectively tidying up and cleaning the premises, washing up and putting away all dishes, utensils, etc. used and subsequently locking up.
6. The Employee shall be responsible for keeping the premises thoroughly clean and tidy. This will include the cleaning of all of the ground floor windows and the keeping of the whole grounds in neat and tidy condition. These duties shall also include the washing of the premises as often as may be required. The Employee shall also ensure that the lavatories are fully serviced with towels etc. always being available.
7. The Employee shall be responsible for ensuring all relevant Health and Safety checks are undertaken as directed.
8. If any repairs are required to the premises or their furnishings, the Employee will forthwith report the same to the Fabric Convener.
9. The Employee will order all necessary supplies of cleaning materials up to financial limits set by the Congregational Treasurer.
10. The Employee shall take telephone messages as required including passing on of messages.
11. The accounts for all supplies or services ordered by the Employee in terms thereof will be checked by the Employee and delivered to the Congregational Treasurer and Assistant Congregational Treasurer , duly initialled for payment, in the case of those accounts which have been approved by the Employee and with comments in the case of those which have not.
12. The Employee will be the first point of contact if the security alarm is activated.
13. Such additional duties as may reasonably be requested by the Employer from time to time.
